"Monotheist" is pretty good, but it doesn't compare with "Morbid Tales" or "To Mega Therion".

I heard Celtic Frost's older albums years ago. Like pretty much everyone has and personally they never did much for me.

For me Monotheist is far deeper, darker, and intelligant than anything they have done before and the production and atmosphere is some of the best i've ever heard.

They are two different beasts really (old vs. new CF) and I do not think directly comparing them is fair. I love both eras ad think they both hold merit. I thought Monotheist was great, but I can see were the album would turn off those looking for the classic CF sound.

It took me a while to get over that, and I'm a practicing Christian. Just ignore the lyrical concept and satanic connotations and enjoy the violent beauty of the music.

Well Danzig are my favorite band (Glenn's lyrics mostly concern Satan), and I love some Manowar, despite the awful lyrical content. I'm talking about shit like Cradle of Filth, where the music sucks and the lyrical content sucks harder. I also enjoy anti-christian (Christian Woman by Type O Negative is one of my top ten favorite songs) lyrics if they're witty and well done. I just hate the fucking bullshit that seems to make up most black metal these days because the music just sucks really badly, let alone the lyrics- which happen to concern rants about church burning. If I heard more black metal, I might change my opinion.

I can respect bands that burn down churches. I hate pretentious assholes that sing about doing it instead. Comprende?

Gore is the best fucking lyrical subject matter possible. What's more vicious than singing about raping babies with chainsaws?

also cradle of filth's lyrics are really really really really really good. or at least they used to be. the lyrics of the whole of "cruelty and the beast" are better than most lyrics i've ever read from any band, never mind most metal bands' pathetic lyrics.
