Remember what it was like before you were born...

I'm delighted to see how many people are abandoning this archaic notion of soul/afterlife and are instead coming to grips with their own mortality and eventual death.

This is quite cool. My faith is humanity is being restored.

Hey man, I don't lie... My friends have called me crazy, but even they were freaked out when I told them about it. I can't be sure it's right, but everything is way too coincidental for it to not be true. At least that's what I believe. It makes a lot more sense to me than god.

It's not the only possible interpretation. I've read some really whacky stuff about past lives, uncanny, but this doesn't prove there is a soul which is reincarnated, it just shows us that there's more going on than we are aware of.

In death there will be... no happiness, no sadness, no fear, no dreams, no sight, no sound, no memories... in essence no emotion, no thought, absolutely NOTHING! Simply a lifeless corpse rotting until there is nothing left or until the end of this world.

That's what I believe anyway. How convenient for christians it is to place so much importance on the "soul". Install fear in the people, provide power for the church, and keep the coffers filled!

I always found it funny when people would try and prove that the soul has mass and weight, gimme a break, it saddens me that tax payers hard earned or not so hard earned or unearned dollars went into this kind of research, for shame.

when you cant prove whats after death, it makes it sooooooooo easy to make stuff up and no one can say your wrong (or right) i wish people would keep there opinions to themselves when talkin about afterlife etc. the truth is we dont have a clue what will happen, so why do people believe that soul stuff?

seriusly, does ppl do these kinds of things?!
wow, that is plain stupidity... hmm but think on it, what if some time in the future thay can poov that we have souls, and that we kan se how our past lifes has ben?
I'm not quite shore if i belive ppl got past lifes and so on... but I mean that there is alot of things between heaven and earth that manking know nothing about....

Heaven and Earth? I know of this Earth, but not of this place you call...Heaven. :p

I think that what we a call soul is our memory of our lives...in a way. I think it could also be the mass of energy that animates us about until the body dies. I think these masses of energy stay together after they leave the body, unless they're very weak and have not been "together" very long, like maybe an infant....?! and they "float" about the world/universe/who knows. I'm even thinking that some just dissipate back into the...solar system or somewhere!

But, most of all, we don't know. No one knows until they die and as we all know, it's too late to spread the news then. We won't know until we die. That's that as far as I'm concerned.

My stance on soul/afterlife etc:

What strikes me about human nature is the inability to look beyond what you know or have learned, or even believe. We must inherently be afraid to admit we don't know that much. I have a truly open mind. I don't profess to believe or descredit any of this soul/afterlife stuff, but I NEVER shut the door behind me unless I am 99% sure that there is no other answer. I guess that makes me an agnostic lifer.

I can only recite my beliefs on the soul/afterlife based on something I've read or heard, which again was an interpretation from that persons perspective. It's the same arguement I have with the bible - great book - 1st KNOWN book, but there is no evidence there wasn't something before it, and we'll probably never know. I have no problem getting through life with this indecisiveness - it actually keep me aware, and subconsciously looking for these answers, until "I" die. But after that (or before), who knows what exists? Why be afraid to admit not knowing?

Why should I recite a definition of the soul? Who says I'm right? We can all make up the wildest ideas of what exists before/after us, and no one can say right or wrong. So all of this talk is both believable and unbelievable. And I don't consider myself copping out by not taking a definitive stance. It's my explanation of the world around me.

I think reincarnation is a possibility, and I also thinks it's possible that we just cease to exist, which isn't scary or doesn't really bother me. The only thing with that is why bother even being alive for a short time anyway, you just end up back where you started. (I guess it could have just been random existance, we're just bioligical beings that have developed self-awarness, nothing more.)

Dude how could you beleive that? just sit there and imagine nothing. no ground, no sky, no sight, no sound, NOTHING. you cant. thats not what happens cause there has to be a point to life. I beleive in life after death, whatever it may be. you cant just be nothing when you die ,otherwise why live?

You are totally right man. It's only what I believe, and I'll be the first person to tell you that it's probably not true (what I believe). It just happens to make sense to me, whereas gods don't........

I don't understand why people fear the idea that there is nothing after death. Sure there is no pleasure, but there is no pain. The way I see the whole heaven thing is like this, even heaven would get boring, I would hate to be anywhere for an eternity.

No, you can't and I don't think there are many humans who actually can. Humans don't have (as of yet) enough brain capacity to grasp huge numbers or distances such as, well, the distance between our galaxy and the Andromeda, and "nothing" isn't exactly one of the easiest things to think of either. :)

Hopefully some day the evolution will upgrade the human operating system so that we'll be able to use a bigger partion of our brains.

Existance after death, hmm. I don't really care if there's something after death. I wish there's something into which this life is a preparatory period or something like that, but I don't think there is. And since there's no way I can affect it, I'm not going to be bothered by it. :)

I'd be interested to see what there is, though, just to know if I should kill myself right now or live the life to the fullest. On the other hand, why not just live life to the maximum anyway? But, on the other hand, why not just end it now.. heh.

The most boring scenario I could think of is being born again and again on Earth (as a human) as part of some sick recycling pattern. Yuck.

I think religion was created by man for two reasons; control and self interest. Because this is why religion was founded I choose to not participate in it. I think it is self serving for us to believe that we only recieve the "reward", an afterlife.

Sorry man, it's just what I believe. No, I suppose I can't imagine absolutely nothing but I can come a hell of a lot closer to imagining that than imagining "heaven" or some sort of reincarnation. I fully believe that there is no point to life. Is that really so bad? I fail to understand why so many think there has to be a point to life. I know life is short and I hope to live it to its fullest. That's enough for me.

I don't think there HAS to be a point to life, but there is so much we can't explain and so much we haven't discovered. It is very possible that we continue to exist after we die physically, i'm not claiming I know how or why, it's just possible. Reincarnation would not be boring, I don't remember who said that but imagine where technology will be after you die, I personally want to be around when we colonize new planets and such. Although ceasing to exist would be nice in its own way. The only thing I don't understand about that is why does ANYTHING exist if there's no point to its existance? Why is there such an incredible amount of things in our reality if it's all pointess? And if it's all just pointless why is there even anything that exists, such as stars and galaxies. It's not that I fear becoming nothing, I just question the need for anything to exist in the first place if there's no point to it.
