Resurrected Power Metal Thread

Oh hell, whatever, still doesn't change the fact that Elvenking sold out...

I'm quite with you on that count,I was referring to Skyclad/The Clan Destined, the band Walkyier's with now. All I heard from that Red Silent Tides-album did indeed suck major balls, along with the new look the band got.

Though I also have to say that the song from their latest album which they made a video for is much better than that. A lot more symphonic, which isn't really my cup of tea either, but definitely Metal. And sometimes it has a nice clash of symphonic keys and folky fiddle.

Still no competition for albums like Heathenreel or TWW, though ;)

Yep, has too much of a "rock star" vibe to it, doesn't have that old "sper-folky" vibe of the old days at all.

I have a question for you guys: Power Metal, and especially Symphonic Power Metal, isn't known for heaviness or brutality, but what is the heaviest Power Metal you've ever listened to? Rhapsody Of Fire is generally pretty melodic, but they have a couple of songs that get pretty intense at times:

To be honest I prefer the mixture of symphonic melodies with harsher sounds rather than just straight melodic/symphonic stuff. Anyone else got similar suggestions to this? Thanks :)

Wow, that new Keldian song sounds amazingly shitty, what a disappointment. They lost that spacy, ethereal, other-worldly feel that made "Journey of Souls" so great and gained really annoying and crappy drums, vocals and even a goddamned acoustic guitar :(

The new album is better than Journey of Souls, and "Earthblood" is fucking awesome. They didn't abandon their original sound at all, they added to it; the new album has way better guitars and vocals. All things considered, I don't understand what the fuck you're talking about:

Has anyone listened to Evertale?? First album came out this year and I think it's fucking great. Reminiscent of Blind Guardian but certainly much different and not a clone. Everything I want in a power metal album - heavy, epic, symphonic, not super-thrashy, not drowning in keyboards.

I usually agree with you, but you're so far off the mark here. The new Keldian is the biggest letdown of the past few years. They had 5 years to make the album and it's stuffed with filler. It's only got three good songs. It's nowhere near Journey of Souls or Heaven's Gate. Not even close.

That's OK, but I'd like to hear more symphonic stuff in there, some keyboards/orchestra/choirs/operatic vocals never hurt a good Power Metal song IMO, and that song is sorely lacking all of the above. If you really want to hear something EPIC you should listen to Pathfinder:

While definitely better than the pile of crap that was linked earlier, it's still not as good as the old Keldian stuff (in fact it sounds some of the riffs, tunes, etc are ripped off from the old stuff, actually).

A Capella Power Metal

Just like what the fuck. who thought this was a good idea??
I mean good singers, but horrible concept.

So I've just listened to a few of their songs of Journey of Souls but I'm liking it. It seems like something I'd have to be in the mood for, but it's very catchy and my god I haven't felt the urge to cheesily sing along at the top of my lungs this hard in a while.

It certainly isn't an aggressive album, which I usually prefer, but it seems like a great easy listen.

I like the instrumentation, they do a pretty good job with the atmosphere.

I'll have to give it a full listen tomorrow.

dude, good call, this is sweet.
The vocals are great they're so diverse, at times the main vocalist sounded like a combination of Hansi + guy from Lost Horizon, then later he sounded like the guy from persuader (who, admittedly also sounds like Hansi), and then + the operatic vocals, im liking it.

Also, it's a long song, but it just doesn't let down.
