There was a whole part in my sociology text about how America was different from Canada and I thought it was amusing that they even included that.

National identity is an obsession to Canadians, we constantly try to remove ourselves from the US in numerous ways (i.e. culturally, linguistically, socially, politically etc.), despite our intimate affiliation with and secret adoration of America. In short, it is probably something you will have to get used too.
