My choices: Three are no brainers, two require a little more explanation.

Agalloch (closest thing to the mythical Band We Can All Agree On)
Anathema (for better or worse, I'm of course biased, but everyone seems to have an opinion about them, so they count...)
Empyrium (the penultimate RC cult band, tied with Negura)
Enslaved (again, some here shit on the newer stuff while others worship it, but most here love at least part of their catalogue)
Hammers Of Misfortune (the ultimate RC cult band)

i'm listening to hammers of misfortune right now for the first time in many moons.

this is winner number one. good goat.

These initial poll results tell me immediately how underrated Aeternus is. Which is cool, but seriously, you all need "...and so the night became".

they're definitely a one album band, of course i can say that about most shit i listen to over the past year or so. i have having 9 albums by one band and only listening to half of two of them.

Shadows of Old is at least as good ! [/I'm in the minority]

TRACK 4 MINUTE 4 AUGUST ENGINE WTFFFFFFFFFfffffffffffffffffff

music doesn't get much better than that. ugh.

That's ok though. I don't rate a band by it's entire catalog so it's ok to extract the one masterpiece accomplishment and ignore the rest. EDIT: At least for the purpose of the polls.

One hit wonders (examples) = Aeternus, Ulver, Anathema

What I'm saying is that each of those bands have that 'one' album that truly, truly stands out above the rest. Case in point: "..and so the night", "Bergtatt", and "Serenades" respectively.

you're absolutely bonkers if you can choose a Number One ulver release. :loco:

there's no way i can choose which i love the most, even from their eps.
