My choices, with justifications:
Isis (even some who hate all things -core like them, so they're in)
Moonsorrow (just see the current thread.)
Orphaned Land (they topped year end lists for many, including Jay and myself...)
Opeth (I can hear the groans, but who here hasn't got into a Opeth debate?)
Primordial (TGW will dominate year end lists.)
Ulver (again, some shit on later stuff, but both eras of the band have some near-fanatical support here.)

we have the exact same list, +nile for me :headbang:

Because SunnO)) will definitely fall behind, I'll chalk it up to "too good for you people" >_>

I'd define it as a band that has made a lasting mark upon metal and appeals to the majority of the people here (or a lesser known band with a fair share fervent defenders on the forum, like Drudkh or Rev. Bizarre), or one that isn't universally appreciated, but inspires frequent debate and discussion (Opeth most obviously).
