I'm pretty sure I spotted at least 1,000 cougars at Sydney Football Stadium alone when Bon Jovi were playing. I see no reason to discount Terry's claim as infeasible.

Here in New Zealand we have the mystery of the moose released over a century ago. Last photographed clearly in 1953, but there are signs they're still around. Hope the poor sods aren't too inbred by now.
No shortage of sightings from the past few years, but don't see much likelihood of them being panthers. Probably just ordinary cats that are unusually massive. After all, a feral estimated to be 35kg was killed in Gippsland in 2005.
