It is. But a 90% match is pretty far off. Humans share something like 70% of their DNA with tomatoes, or something ridiculous like that, so matching a species has to be pretty exact.
However, it is getting the point that these things will be classified as a seperate species of big cat in the not to distant future. The Australian Wild Cat will be a techincal species of animal I'm afraid.
Seriously though, I"m still skeptical. "described as bigger than a German shepherd dog", for example. It's like when people say they have a huge spider or snake in their house.... And usually it's just a small animal, no bigger than normal. People love a bit of exaggeration.
Said it before and I will say it again. I saw a big arse cat in Creswick (just out of Ballarat) a few years ago. Not claiming it was a panther or a puma or anything, but if it was a feral cat, it was damn fucking huge for a feral cat.
