Smell it, smell it, now take it!

the first time around, he WASN'T elected by the American people. Gore had over a half-million more votes than Bush. that Electoral College nonsense is what got Bush in office.

that being said, the American people represent the American people, not some piece of shit of a human being like George Bush.

I know there was some "iffy" stuff about that election but what's the source of that statement beside Michael More?

I should have said the majority of the ameriacan people. But that's how it is when you have democracy, sometimes your guy wins sometimes he lose. Ofc people understand that all americans aint gunhumping, warmongering bushlovers but apparently more then half were back in 2004.

I don't care about individual cities and states. The country as a whole is what should matter. As a whole, more Americans voted for Gore. Since more Americans voted for Gore, Gore should have been the president.

I KNOW that the presidency isn't decided by the popular vote. I'm saying that it SHOULD be. People in one area have different opinions, so the whole "What, you want NEW YORK to matter more than NEW MEXICO?!" doesn't hold water, either.

My point is, regardless of whether or not the "majority" of people think a certain way or not, there's still a huge portion (the "minority") who don't think the same way, and you cannot simply lump everyone together just because of what the majority thinks. I mean, "majority" can mean 51%. 49% is still alot of fuckin' people, lol. So to say, "well it was the majority that did vote for him", I mean you're not talking about like 20 million people who voted for him and then maybe a couple thousand who didn't! lol It's a huge amount of people here who didn't.

Having toured overseas a couple times now, I've met alot of cool people. But I have noted from some conversations I've had with them that there's some misconceptions they have about us and our country. That's ok, because I'm sure we can say the same about us too. But it's just become extremely popular for people to target us and generalize us in a very negative light, and it's unfair. I've had negativity directed towards me before because of my nationality, by people who don't really even know me personally. It's really no better than prejudices like racism or hating other religions, etc.

Anyhow, seriously, before this turns uglier than that Iraqi's toejam, let's just chill on the political stuff so that we don't wind up in some big negative debate. We've got all different kinds of people who post here from many different countries and walks of life, and everyone is cool with each other, I'd like to keep it that way.

Leave it to Vito to start this thread. Fuckin' Vito.

Yknow, we've always kept politics and ND very separate, especially in public forums and stuff.

I forgot you guys are Americans. Didnt want to hurt anyone's feelings. Honestly, this incident was totally unexpectable and that what makes it funny.

A couple of years ago, someone entarted our Prime Minister. The situation was funny the first second but has become more serious the hour after. Those people called themselves "the PIE Brigade", they have launched a website of their proudness. I think every presidents or ministers need more protection. Their political power is partially based on the social reputation and that is important.

The problem I have with discussing politics on the internet is that I have a problem expressing my thoughts in english since Im not from a english speaking country (belive it or not!!!) and I always get carried away and say things I dont really stand for. So let's stop with the politics and talk music instead!

So have you guys heard of this band Novembers Doom? (My humor does not translate well too...)

What many people forget as well, even with the popular vote. Even if it's a 50-50 split, thats only 100% of the people who actually went to the polls to vote. The MAJORITY of Americans can't or don't vote in the elections at all, so the popular vote is really decided on about a quarter of the actual American population, and when cluster fucks happen like the 2000 election, when Gore won the popular, but Bush won the presidency, people tend to say "Why the fuck should I bother voting then?" and then don't. So, when all Americans are judged by our president, who had 50 to 60% of the popular vote, we only talking about 10 to 15% of the ENTIRE nation.

Every legal adult in this country should vote, and the popular vote of the entire country SHOULD decide the winner.

I think a major problem with our elections is that a LARGE majority of voters have no idea what their own stances are on the issues, let alone the stances of the candidates.

I vote, but don't lose sleep if the candidate of my liking wins or doesn't win.

Regardless, I still have to go to work and pay taxes.

I think the major problem is America doesn't do their research and find out what the candidates are REALLY about, what they REALLY stand for and what they want to accomplish. America is to consumed by the guy who is popular and says some stuff that Americans believe at the time so he gets "elected".
