Smell it, smell it, now take it!

Actually, throwing your shoes at someone is one of the worst insults imaginable in the Arab world. I feel sorry for the reporter though he's probably been deemed a terrorist and is being water boarded right now. Bush needs more than shoes thrown at him though he needs to be arrested like the criminal he is and tried before a court of law.

Your post made me literally laugh out loud... as if the bureaucrats in Washington would have the paperwork done that fast that the guy would already be being waterboarded! But then again it has been a few days.

Every legal adult in this country should vote, and the popular vote of the entire country SHOULD decide the winner.

I'll kindly disagree. I think the electoral college is way outdated, and I do think there is better way of going about elections. However, the popular vote is not representative of a country. It represents what is best in certain areas, but not the entire country.

How do you figure? If EVERY adult had a vote, and it wasn't separated by state, but as a whole, and it was a simple matter of majority wins, how is this not a representation of a country? The electoral college is HORRIBLY flawed.

It's as simple as a high school voting on student council members. The kid with the most votes from the student body, wins. Look at the country like a big high school, and we're all students there.

It seems pretty easy to me. :)

Man you guys are so funny. I was expected something loud and scary to pop on Neil Cavuto so when the lizard finally popped on I laughed my ass off.. The voice was just hilarious...

I heard from my parents that this shoe-throwing fellow was beaten severely and had broken ribs after this video and was immediately considered a terrorist and sent to Abu Graib so I guess that one guy was right. I think that's pretty sad, the guy will probably rot and die there. I doubt he will be one of the people Bush pardons before leaving office.

Democracy sucks. Totalitarian dictatorship is where it's at. When the current regime collapses, I shall rise to power and crush my opponents under my booted heel. My evil henchmen and I will rule with an iron hand. :)

I dunno, hard to say it's "sad" when that guy I'm sure was well aware of what kinds of consequences he'd be facing by doing what he did. And was it really worth it?? I think it's sad when there are people who are jailed and mistreated when there's no real proof of their wrongdoing, or just being guilty by association or something. But this guy made a choice and now has to live with it. Plus, now he's got no shoes.

From what I understand, the punishment over there is pretty severe for even lesser offenses? I mean, if someone pulled a stunt like that here in the U.S., there'd be consequences too, but c'mon man you know you're in deep shit pulling a stunt like that over there

It becomes a representation of certain regions. I know that the midwest doesn't feel the same as the coasts do on some topics (to put it lightly). Shoot, if it was always based on popular vote, you might as well have only the top 10 most populated states vote...

I'm not saying that the electoral college is a good way of going about an election. I do think that there are better ways of doing it, just not based on the popular vote.

I fail to see how it becomes by region, if the total popular vote is counted. The only reason I ever saw a need for the electoral college, was to even the playing field in terms of fair campaigning, but there's really no point if the popular vote doesn't decide the winner. It's a broken system. I still stand behind the High School method of the TOTAL popular vote across the entire US is counted, and a winner is named. Votes would be counted individually, and not by region.

regions don't decide what people believe is right. I'm against strict gun laws, while some of my neighbors aren't. I'm prochoice, where my nextdoor neighbor is prolife. Regions don't mean anything.

Sure it has to do with regions...

I'm saying that the popular would only represent what the coastal states vote for.... It's pretty much that way any way, but if we used the popular vote, then it would even be moreso that way.

I've lived in Nebraska, Iowa, and Wisconsin in my short life, and I'll tell you what... The way everything is handled in Nebraska is much different than Iowa and Wisconsin.

The way people view the nation is a lot different in Nebraska than it is in Wisconsin (not Iowa so much as Iowa and Nebraska are basically the same state )

I know California doesn't have the same views on gun control and abortion as there are here. There are plenty of arguments for regions. Popular vote takes out the importance of my vote as long as I'm living in a less populated state.

I guess it's just about how you perceive it...

As I've said before, I'll agree that something should be put in place of the electoral college, I just don't think popular vote is the answer.

(and I'm not trying to be a prick by staying on this subject)

Considering that arguement and point of view, it almost would seem then that the various regions of the U.S. are different enough that having one leader doesn't really work well does it?

In all seriousness though, this is why I think more people should really get involved in their local and state governments and who's elected there and what's going on. I can't tell you how many people here in Illinois couldn't have even told you the name of their governor until he got himself into a bunch of trouble recently! I know so many people who get all politically motivated every four years when the Presidental election comes but pay little to no attention to anything else.

Haha, I was just thinking that that was how my post sounded....

I'll have to try to come up with a better way to word my thought...
