So Andy cut his hair...

Besides metal is supposed to be non conformist, but the expectation that to be metal you need a be a pissed off middle class suburbia white male with horrible sense of fashion and long, scraggly hair completely screams hypocrisy, as that mentality if very "conformist".

Epic +1 to this, have been thinking the same thing the last few years

Some of these posts bring back memories of when I got shit for wearing white t-shirts (or worse, button-up shirts) to a concert or on stage while playing death metal. Despite playing and/or enjoying death metal at the time, I apparently wasn't metal enough? The best part is during band photos. They basically force you to look angry and wear as much black as humanly possible.

I got told off by the rest of the band for wearing this: (I'm the bassist), at around 1:15 there's a close up where you can see it was the Spanish National football team T-shirt

And that was less than a month after I had cut my hair, they were scared hahaha

Anyways, Andy's totally gay now.

It's funny how some people think that appereance matters, especially the ones who want to look
special, there were loads of people who treated me like shit while I had long hair, wore a leather
jacket, army shorts, boots and band shirts and now people treat me like shit because I cut my
hair, stopped wearing band shirts and stuff...

In my experience, metal bands are one of the most reliant on image. Especially new bands. You simply don't get successful metal bands who look as normal as say, The Pixies. Sadly.

I am the guy that wears fitted designer button up shirts to shows (black mostly of course). I get shit for it, but who cares, the way I dress on stage is pretty on par with what a lot of the melodic metal bands in Scandinavia dress, its not intentional but fuck it, I dress the way I want to. I was in a Black Metal band years ago and got shit for smiling on stage, its like, fuck you I'm having fun. But then again we were all pressured to wear black and two halves of the band were fighting over the mandate to wear corpsepaint, I was one against.

It is worth pointing out though, that most metal bands have to be much more than just the music. The live image, the show, the props is all a part of a bigger entertainment package. Having someone in a band that looks like they are straight out of the Hamptons playing the darkest of Black Metal is definitely going to confuse people, but I am not advocating that if you are in a black metal band that you have to wear corpsepaint, leather bondage and medieval armor, but you should have some type of aura and attitude about you that makes a bold statement to say that you are an extension of the soundscape of the band, because if you don't you are going to confuse people.

Its not necessarily how you dress or look, its all in the attitude, do you reinforce the personality of the band?

Don't forget ... WITH a french accent ;)

^maybe what he ment was that he started to get multiple pussy at a single occasion?

The longest I had my hair was about until it got into my eyes, then I always cut it back to a few mm.
With long hair and without beard I'd look like a less pretty version of my mother

Andy needs an epic bead now imo!

+1 on the whole "metal = non conformity so let us make us look all the same" lolfest btw
