not gonna happen...yeh....but i seem to be the only one who likes the idea. i mean if you really work on it it could be really amazing....but maybe it's just because i really music from the old masters as liszt, bach, debussy, grieg (sp?) etc...
Well if they (Opeth) were to attempt such a project, it would, definitely
have to be new material.
Not like Metallica, who bastard-ized some classic songs on that "S+M"
fiasco (The only exception being "Call of Ktulu").
I liked S&M quite a lot though, and after its release we got a tour full of classic metallicasongs with the FULL version of Master of Puppets
about Opeth doing symphonic arrangements. it would be a weird choice if they do so, because they never used any atmospheric keyboards or sth (I'm not too sure about it; but i dont think they ever did)
Opeth with an orchestra? I don't think this could be done without compromising their delicate melodicism, although I'm sure a short violin or cello part on either an acoustic or prog-leaning composition would produce intriguing results...
