to be honest, there are no opeth's songs that i dislike except maybe one. but... there are 4 or 5 in all that don't like as much as others so i'm curious to see whichs songs you can live without! :hotjump:

here's my top 5 for the most ordinary songs in my view:

1. endind credits ( this is the only opeth's song i don't like at all )
2. death whispered a lullaby
3. by the pain I see in others ( something misses here )
4. weakness ( i love that song when i feel more relax )
5. white cluster ( the middle part is awsome however )

I'm so glad that new members manage to post such original topics even after just joining. It makes me so happy. Hahaha...

In any case... In Mist She Was Standing, The Night And The Silent Water, Dirge For November, Master's Apprentices, By The Pain I See In Others.

The first two I just plain didn't like. I really like Dirge For November, just not as much as other songs. The mellow parts in Master's Apprentices are good, but the opening, as someone here said... Just really overproduced. And By The Pain I See In Others is, as you said, lacking in ways.

heheh aw man, i couldn't disagree with you two's choices more, especially death whispered a lullaby and The night and the silent water, but oh well, you're entitled to your opinion
I don't think i'd be able to decide... i like all opeth songs, and there are several that stand out positively, but i don't think i could select 5 least favorites

i was expecting that kind of answer btw but i'm new about 4 days and there are 9840 threads until now and the site is very slow here... so until now i did'nt saw any threads about it. maybe there are maybe not but lets get updated!

I in no way hate or dislike these songs, I love them. But if I had to pick 5 of them

1. nectar
2. death whispered a lullaby
3. by the pain I see in others

Those are songs i skip sometimes....i can only think of three, thats how great they are.

ok..

"In My Time of Need"
"Advent"
"Apostle in Triumph" (except the beginning, which kicks ass)
"Nectar"

eh.. and I kinda like those songs too.. just pointing out a few Opeth songs that I don't connect with as much as I do with others..

haha i don't know if the first one counds but definitely
- prologue (skip it every time)
- wreath (good parts, but kinda boring overall)
- blackwater park (dunno why)
- dirge for november (feels incomplete after the awesome soft intro)
- a fair judgement (find myself skipping this one almost every time i listen to deliverance, it was supposed to be a heavy album... you don't see there being one growled track on damnation do you? a little out of place, but a good song nonetheless)

I well and truly cant stand Bleak... I know heaps of people love it but damnit, its just not how metal is done!

Drapery Falls is bloody awfull and far too popular for its own good

Wreath/Deliverance could have been better

And somehow I never realy liked Karma... I realize its a fantastic song, but its just not realy for me...

Difficult to explain... I dont realy mind the intro, but as soon as the singing kicks in, and all the other instruments sorta drop off a bit... it just doesnt seem like the kind of song that should have death growls used in it.

I'm pretty much in aggreance with you. At first I'd thought I'd never get tired of any of the songs in BWP, but after hearing all of the other albums, I find BWP to be the least enjoyble (at the moment). As far as AFJ, yeah same with me. I skip only that song when listening to D1. However, whenever I feel like listening to that AWESOME solo, you know, THAT ONE...I gotta play it. But most of the time, I just skip the song altogether.

I dunno.... the singing in the song is brilliant, and the melodic dual riff underneath that drives it works so well in conjunction.... I love how Opeth can go from heavy to melodic so easily and smoothly.... well thats just my 2 cents on bleak, i know not everybody has to love the song.
