Metal has always been about preaching. A lot of times it's preaching non-conformity, which is deliciously ironic.

Don't agree at all really. All of my favourite heavy metal bands have a neligible level of proselytism to them, unless you start reading deeper into their lyrics than any of them clearly intended.
