The Behemoth Thread

The technique is Morbid Angel derived and the concept is certainly similar. The difference is pretty superficial, and is mainly derived from differences in production.
i have to agree. when they do those triplet riffs in one guitar with the second guitar playing the melody with tremolo picking is so morbid angel is not even funny. even the soloing is very reminiscent of erik rutan's style.
the nile influence is pretty strong as well imo.

p.s. i'm talking about demigod. not the early black metal stuff

Personally I think that Behemoth is pretty fucking badass. They really are a hardworking band.

Different influences are very noticeable on Demigod, that's pretty obvious. But it is what they do with them that's impressive to me. You also have to realize that Behemoth isn't so new as a band, and what Nergal had become musically by the time Demigod was released also came from a lot of "personal" development instead of just ripping off other artists.

Being around for a while doesn't preclude ripping off other artists. Many artists begin to run out of ideas as their careers go on, and the temptation to remain relevant by copying what has worked for others is strong - and made easier by the fact that they themselves have an established presence.

Behemoth's recorded material is boring, I dont like it at all.

But LIVE - fantastic. I'll definitely see them again.

I love all of their DM stuff. In my top 5 favorite bands, definitley. But how does Nergal reproduce his studio-produced vocals live?

i like demigod, it's a nice record that i enjoy. i'm just saying the influences like you said, are pretty obvious, sometimes more than obvious eheh.
plus demigod has nothing to do with the sound of their beginnings.
it's obvious they started to get death metal influences, and that shows in their music. the result is nice, but far from original.

Several members do vocals at the same time to get the layering effect, or so I've been told.

I think Nergal uses effects to a degree. I can't recall hearing other vocals harmonizing with it when the vocals sounded processed.
