The "Big Four" of Thrash

Who should be in the "Big Four" of Thrash?

Testament, I would say on the basis that they've done well critically, and sold a decent amount of albums, and the legendary musicians they've had in their line-up over the years. Gene Hoglan, Paul Bostaph, James Murphy, Steve DiGiorgio, Glen Avelais,(guitar-Forbidden)John Tempesta (ex-Exodus drummer)Dave Lombardo. I can't see any of these guys volunteering, unless it's out of respect for Testament. Sure as hell couldn't have been for just money, that's for sure.
Forbidden should be on the list...they've had members join Testament, Slayer, up for the guitar slot in Megadeth, etc....
Of Course Overkill's been around longer than the big 4, nothing but respect from me.
I would love to say Coroner, since along with Heathen and Forbidden are my 3 favorite thrash bands, but they (Coroner) don't appeal to some, because of the vocals,(which fucking kill!)and that's too bad.

Yeah. The German bands are a separate breed. I actually like German thrash better as a whole, but that's besides the point. The big four are the big four because they were the most popular by far, and not because they were the best (which, aside from Slayer, they were not). So I don't know if I'd take any band out and replace them with a band on that list.

The difference is bands like Sodom and Kreator never strayed from their roots and I know a couple of Kreator's albums were experimental, but in the end they always came back to the thrash sound and also they were not looking for commercial success, like Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer

Early Metallica >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any other thrash. Those albums are the most historic and creative thrash ever written imo. I don't think metal had ever really sounded 'serious' before Metallica came along.

I suppose it's a matter of opinion. There is plenty of thrash I deem to be far superior to Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning. However, you are correct that they are unmatched in terms of their historical importance and influence. Metallica are to thrash what Sabbath are to metal as a whole.

They were never big enough to have the same impact impact on the thrash world as EXODUS.

Fair enough, but Whiplash was still awesome

Anyone who doesn't vote Exodus is a faggot and should kill themselves

Seriously, while I like Kreator, they are overrated as a thrash band.
