The CHEESE thread!

I just made some pulled pork and tried making my own barbecue sauce from its succulent juices. It turned out too sweet but still I HAVE A NEW ADVENTURE BEFORE ME, INTO THE LANDS OF SAUCEDOM

It's kinda low on the totem pole of cheese aficionados. A discerning cheese enthusiast usually won't like it due to the somewhat generic taste.

Personally I like just about every single kind of cheese in existence; that said, there's definitely a difference when you get into high quality and expensive cheeses. Sounds strange, but a fine cheese usually tastes good to only those who know what to look for...it's similar to wine.

If most people knew how a true brie is actually made in France they'd never eat it again.

I see where you are coming from. I love all types of cheeses. Certain cheeses serve a purpose. Pepper jack is great on top of a hamburger, spice it up a bit.

I see where you're coming from as well. I also like the taste of pepper jack on hamburger, but not because of the cheese; it's the peppers.

I think my main problem with pepper jack, and I may be able to vouch for Karen on this as well, is that it doesn't taste like cheese. It's like a glob of tasteless curdled milk with a bit of spice...in effect, all you taste are the peppers anyway. That's probably the reason it tastes good on burgers because it doesn't overpower the burger. In the end, it's like not having cheese at all, just the texture of cheese.

Let's face it; few people like a really strong, robust smelling and tasting cheese on their food, which is why swiss and bleu cheese is just about as far as the average person will go with cheese on burgers, and they aren't that strong, either.

So Lynn, I ended up eating something else for dinner last night but today for breakfast I got a fresh baguette, goat mozzarella, fresh bazil and tomatoes and made heaven in my oven :Spin:

Aww :) Mine turned out awesome.. picked up a jar of Emirills sauce and had at it with a salad. Was in the mood for wine but nothing looked good, so it was pomegranite tea and a nap in front of the fire instead.

I had Garlic cheese for the first time the other day and it was freaking yummy as all hell.

It went well with the Chorizo and Scrambled Eggs.

hmmm yummy yummy

My girlfriends father makes pretty awesome cheese salad. According to him you need a blue cheese, a soft(ish) cheese, some firm cheese like eidam and then any other two or so cheeses one desires (he used cheddar and gouda) all bound together with yoghurt, a tiny bit of paprika and black pepper.

Hot damn if it wasn't awesome.

Laura, marry me. I'll cook for you every day of our wonderful union, wishing I had a flower for each time I thought of you in the knowing that I could walk in that endless garden forever.

...

My recommendation is to find a cheese shop for all you in the US and stop buying crap from Wal-Mart. It's a whole new world. I'm sure there must be a place that specializes in cheeses.
