The Dark Knight

excuse you. don't be such a dumbfuck. you obviously had some built-up irritation towards me that was just waiting to explode  and why are you making such a big fucking deal if we disagree about the movies we like?

I'm frankly just SICK AND TIRED of seeing the same script recycled over and over and over again. If that entertains your mind and gives you some sort of freedom from your research and writing your dissertation, then fine. enjoy. But don't fucking tell me that i'm a "psuedo intellect" for liking movies with essence in them. yes, i said essence, did that just shove another stick up your ass? Apocalypse Now was a fucking MASTERPIECE. if you didn't appreciate it, then that sucks for you. we obviously have different tastes.

and don't assume that just cuz I like these types of movies, doesn't mean that I don't like other genres as well. I enjoy my share of the American Pie movies and all that stupid teenage shit. and I loved Zoolander so stfu. they're cool to see once in a while. but my point was that it is the same old movie, over again that gets the most recognition and attracts the bigger audience. and that is sad, whether you want to admit or not.

p.s. my favorite movie is The 'Burbs. and my favorite show is Curb Your Enthusiasm. so don't be so quick to judge, mr. know-it-all.

I don't have any built-in irritation towards you, nor anybody in particular. I just hate pompous assholes, and you tend to provide fine examples of such behaviors occasionally. For example:

What I really liked about it tho was that there was a lot of...umm...social philosophy in it.

Oh really, Mrs. Philosopher? Good for you. Also, you said the box office is an example of just how stupid our culture has become. See, you are the typical pseudo-intellectual, attempting to rise above the rest of the mortals with quick little jabs on the mainstream cultural industry, only to retreat later when someone points out just how snobbish you are.

The films that make it big in the box office may have "essence", and much more so than your pathetic little Apocalypse Now. It's not just because it's a movie about a comic book character, for example, that it will be less interesting than a more "artistic" movie. Actually, now that I think of it, people such as yourself should be glad about the current state of affairs. After all, if your movies with an "essence" were the ones who made it big, you wouldn't be able to use them to set yourself apart from the other, culturally unevolved folks.

So to answer your question, by saying AGAIN that movies that are truly good are the ones who have some "essence" in them, and giving the typical condescending wink to the mainstream, you only manage to convince me even further that you're a fucking sheep whose judgements are based on what is, ironically, perceived by a few jackasses as "intellectually adequate". And it must fucking suck to be you.

seriously, I'm not even going to bother. He thinks he's being cool by calling people psuedo this and psuedo that.
Whatever floats your boat man.

BATMAN (comic books and movies) is not superficial. It's entertaining for sure but there are a lot of deep and interesting subjects. Superheroe stories are more than big, tough guy who saves the planet with their super powers. There are a lot of psycho., socio. or philo. studies about "them" to understand a bit more the human being. And in a lot of studies they are mentionned even if "they" weren't the main subject.

For instance, BATMAN fights against his dark side. He saves the people BUT he likes to fight / the death / to destroy etc... He's not completely interested in saving people. There are tons of metaphores.
However, these movies are popular and entertaining. The stories aren't boring and they make us forget are daily problems.

I will never blame these stories and characters, but only the movie writers / directors or actors.

EDIT: The Cinema has never started with deep subjects. It was at first ONLY entertaining, and it was from the beginning an Industry with big productions. So it's not new at all.

any superhero wearing any forms of tight clothing and/or leather, reeks of gay at such magnitudes i'm in awe that people even bother watching it

there, i said it, now have a nice day

Whoa, Whoa, WHOA. Tone it down, GOD. I hadn't been checking out this thread, but I'm glad I did.

Let's try to keep it civilized, please?

On-topic: Sorry if this has been mentioned in this thread already, but if it hasn't:

Wikipedia's Article on "The Dark Knight" said:
To prepare for the role, Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character's posture, voice and psychology, and kept a diary, in which he recorded the Joker's thoughts and feelings to guide himself during his performance.[10][14] While he initially found it difficult, Ledger was eventually able to generate a voice that did not sound like Jack Nicholson's take on the character in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film.

I found it really interesting that he committed that much to the role. It just makes me want to see it even more. I've never really been a fan of Batman, but the Joker, it's a whole other story!

I'm psyched.

I went and saw Journey to the Centre of the Earth 3D last night, it was pretty decent, typical, predictable family bullshit but I still enjoyed it.. I then snuck into the Dark Knight immediately after, I can't get enough of this movie.

And I'm not joining in on this shitstorm, or attacking anyone, just going to state my opinion...

I hate people that criticize movies for being "superficial". "Oh yeah, I like Little Miss Sunshine better than National Lampoon's Vacation because it had one character that was a Nietzsche freak".

:worship:notworthy Thank you! I hate those fuckers too. It's like every movie I love has an average/low score on IMDB/RT and all the shit, boring, tasteless films are "OMG 8/10!!"... It's just stupid pretentious bullshit.

Robocop is a better movie than Big Fish, end of fucking discussion.

And fuck, "Apocalypse Now" is one of the most BORING, yes, you read that right, BORING movies EVER.

I dunno about that, it has some really fucking drawn out parts though I will DEFINITELY give you that. The REDUX made me want to gouge my fucking eyeballs out.

What I really hate about those pseudo-intellectual types is that they try so hard to squeeze whatever references they can to make themselves look smart from a movie, that many times they actually miss what the movie is all about! I've seen that happen a thousand times. And people are just so busy trying to sound smart and cool that they forget to have FUN with the freaking movie.

I've seen this a million times too, during a movie I had a friend who kept saying "Oh he's trying to illustrate blah blah blah" and I turned to him and was like "Dude, shut the fuck up and watch the movie."

There's NOTHING wrong with Hollywood movies, made just to entertain. There's NOTHING wrong with Rambo 4. There's NOTHING wrong with Iron Man. There's NOTHING wrong with Ratatouille. There's NOTHING wrong with Zoolander. There's NOTHING wrong with Kill Bill.

I agree with 80% of this statement, there ARE some fucking movies that are clearly just recycled garbage that will make money that are totally star-driven and have no worthwhile story. Take for example, 21... even if people thought it was a good movie, I've seen ten other movies about THE SAME THING, done THE SAME WAY... only difference was the stars weren't OMG KEVIN SPACEY... in fact, The Last Casino imo was a better film than 21 and they are basically the same movie, only difference is The Last Casino was an independent/low budget film.

excuse you. don't be such a dumbfuck. you obviously had some built-up irritation towards me that was just waiting to explode  and why are you making such a big fucking deal if we disagree about the movies we like?

I don't think he had anything AGAINST YOU per se, just against all the people who do that sort of thing (not that you were) and he was just voicing his opinion.

I'm frankly just SICK AND TIRED of seeing the same script recycled over and over and over again.
I agree, and he never said those movie were good or bad, he just said in ANY movie people who try to extract some kind of "deeper meaning" and forget to just be entertained are losing out on the experience.

Well, I dunno... It has good elements, I wouldn't call it a Masterpiece... imo all the "MASTERPIECE" movies suck. I like Apocalypse now, but there's a million BETTER Vietnam movies I'd rather watch, such and FMJ or Platoon.

P.S. BURN ALL INFERIOR MOVIE SCRIPTS THEY ARE THE SCUM OF SOCIETY THEY DESERVE TO BE OVERDOSED AND USED AS TARGET PRACTICE FOR THE MILITARY!!!!

^ But Christian Bale's six-pack tease me

Tell me about it :dopey:

Seriously though, I saw the trailer. And even though I hate superheroes in general, I want to watch this movie solely for Ledger's acting. He seemed like the best depiction of a psychopath I've ever seen in a movie.

This opened my eyes about movies, in a way.

I don't like Hollywood movies, in general, but not because I'm snob or whatever, there's a lot of "stupid" movies that I like, but I don't really appreciate to be taken as a moron by the director.

I bought Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket like two week ago, I never saw them before and I even still didn't see them yet, I'm too busy, hell!
