@hitori: yes yes it was cronenberg's crash i was talking about.
nf: good in a way because the new propagandhi album is growing on me although it's a bit too metal for my tastes. i'd love to see them on tour. in other matters, i'm half-recovered.
Splendid! We have bought a new dog today, well, its a she, a beagle and her name is Gaia! I feel like a Neanderthal, cause I still dont have a digital camera, so no pics (yet), sorry.
I love beagles and I miss my dog (the family's dog)... Since sunday she's 5 years old and I haven't seen her since the 24th of July (the day I left germany).
NF: Tired, wanted to go to bed at 11pm but got a phone call half an hour earlier and talked until now...
I would've enjoyed Haggis's Crash, if not for the scenes with the two young black guys -- having deep, philosophical conversations about socioeconomic conditions right before carjacking someone. They were so ridiculous and poorly written that I actually got angry. Hell, I'm angry now, just thinking about it. It's an attempt -- by the black community -- to validate their actions by portraying them as educated and smart enough to think logically through the possible ramifications and being so desperate for money and social power that they'd carry out a carjacking anyway. Bullfuckingshit. Not only is that portrayal of American blacks nauseatingly idealistic, it's also self-defeating: Showing them in this way only encourages white-on-black racism because it makes whites think the educational playing field is level and that both whites and blacks (or, more accurately, middle-class and lower-class) evaluate the consequences of committing a crime based on the same information (background, social standing, economic opportunity), which is not true.
NF: Slightly embarrassed for going off on such an unprovoked rant.
NF: Sleepy, constipated and annoyed that I have to stay at work till at least midnight. It's raining too so the office is even colder. That and the sound of rain is lulling me to sleep. I was looking forward to a night of World of Warcraft, too
Really annoyed. Waited 4 hours for a fat cow of a client to approve my copy, only to have her add just ONE word. Now I have to wait a few more hours for them to take ages to make another decision. Stupid...
nf: Hungry. Haven't had breakfast, and all the food is in the meeting room, where there is currently <gasp!> a meeting.
A thread about my absence and WoW?
And I have horde on Firetree... and Lightning's Blade, Warsong, and Mannoroth.
And Alliance... on Darkspear, Stonemaul (hint hint), Skywall, and some other one...
ah yeah, Caelestia thinks we should all go to firetree/treefire/whatever instead. i have a horde there, lvl 3. only it's a warlock and i don't know if i like it that much yet, plus i'm so ugly
err right. i'll wait for that promised thread then.
NF: good enough
Oh, and as for Crash... in a way you're right Lina, I hadn't looked at it from that angle. I found the exchange amusing when I first watched it though. Then again, don't you think that no matter how they portrayed the blacks, the movie makers could have been accused of racism? Ah this is a complicated subject, and I'd like to get into it but I'm at school. Plus I don't really know the situation in the US that well, and in Mexico we just have different types of racism.
