I second that, our mod is getting scary. And he called me a monster!

@Geri: good to know, miss! :D

@Bastardson: i hate to get back to this conversation, but if my memory doesn't fail me it was "Salo".

Well, at the uni, there was this female friend of mine, and I thought shes like in for everything, she was cheating on her boyfriend and was openminded blah blah. And she told me that she had to leave the cinema after 10 minutes when she went to see Salo. That was enough for me. :ill:

Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma (1975)
aka "Salo ou les 120 journées de Sodome" - France
aka "Salo, or The 120 Days of Sodom"

i admit that reading the last page of this thread puzzles me. how did we get to high-brow gay directors? i can see where the 'gay' came. not sure about the rest.

anyway, i found a scorpion in my bed this morning. i was slightly worried then i realized that i never had a problem sharing a bed with poisonous snakes. on the other hand, this fancy bit of poetry came to my mind:

While man should love all of God's creatures
I have lousy mortal criteria
I discriminate against critters
And moths give me fits of hysteria

(they don't. but they terrify rahvin, and the phobias of my friends are my phobias because my friends become unbearable when they do see something that scares them)

salò is the name of the republic the fascist regime created as a separate entity from the kingdom of italy once ww2 got a turn for the worse. it's named after a town in northern italy.
if i remember correctly, the hilarious/crappy/cult movie mentioned above deals with sexual perversion and various forms of s&m practices. the infamous military regime left to its own creepy devices must have seemed an appopriate setting for the story of disturbed, gory acts.

edit: as a side note. moths! aaaaaargh! no! no! moths! take them away from me! no!
ok.

that movie is not hilarious by any means (didn't read the whole thread but whoever said this is plainly wrong and has never seen the movie). it's quite disturbing actually. i think it's one of pasolini's absolute worst works, it's just too morbid. not even gory per se - but it's a twisted celebration of abuse that makes me feel worse than sleeping in a nest of scorpions.
