Had a weird one last night.
Dreamed I was walking to the train station outside my apartment to get to the class I teach at 9:05, and as I approached the train pulled up. But it looked strange, and as I got closer I saw that the cars were bigger and some of them had blue tarps pulled over them. Getting even closer, I saw that they had big farm animals on board--cows, horses, pigs, etc. Apparently local farms had co-opted the T in order to transport their animals to some meat market. Additionally, the rails were no longer rails, but had become water--so the train cars weren't cars, they were boats.
I realize that this means the T is going to be running slower, so I'm annoyed. As I approached the station, someone tells me I have to get in line so they can decide if I'll be allowed on board. This makes me nervous. I end up being allowed on board, but suddenly realize I'm not wearing any shoes--I left them on the platform. So I run back and put them on, and then try to return to the train/boat.
At this point, the scene dramatically changes, and I'm waking up in my bed. The room is extraordinarily dark, I can barely make out the contours of anything around me. I check my phone to see the time, and it reads 9:61 a.m. This of course is not a real time, but in my dream I interpreted it as: I've slept through my class. So I jolt upward, thinking "I need to call my department." But I can't move right, my limbs aren't responding, and what's more--I can't talk. My chest is heaving, I'm trying to speak, but all that comes out is a very faint wheezing. I'm crunching my chest, trying desperately to make some kind of audible sound.
I startled awake, for real this time, shooting upright in bed and shouting out loud. Also woke my wife up. It was intense.
