The "Education" Thread

God damn, that's impressive! If you take the offer and ever consider going to a metal show in NYC, just let me know.

Will do! I'm still waiting on answers from seven other programs and will have a mountain of factors to sort through if I make it into half of them, including visa and work for the girlfriend (NYC definitely has some advantages there), but if I'm in NYC, I'll definitely be hitting up the metal and punk scene.

Guess we'll just refer to you as Professor dumb jew now :p

At least I won't be in want of pastrami and rye ;)

Im fucking failing everything. The only two passing grades i have are history and weightlifting which are 70 and 100 respectively. Most of them i can bring up but my fucking spanish grade is a 34. The teacher is almost never there and they keep giving us the same recycled busy work sheets that i dont know how to do. Usually i spend half the class hanging out in hall/lounge because i dont know jack shit about the worksheets.

I should probably drop out, get my GED and go straight into trade school because im failing everything and have a suspension on my record as well as a few other things possibly.

Im really tired of my school. I ripped a sign off a door (theres a sign on the mens bathroom door only that says the door must remain open which i feel is a violation of my privacy) and they actually checked the fucking cameras to figure out who did it, accused me of doing it without any real evidence other than me going into the bathroom with another kid, and after all that they never even replaced the damn sign. I think they knew it was me and just wanted to piss me off

I've had an exciting evening. I was offered a position in Harvard's history and literature program. It's a non-renewable three-year lectureship, but a pretty sweet deal. The current offer is only for a part-time position, but it pays more than I currently make in my program. :D

I have some weighing of options to do, because I also have an unofficial full-time offer from BU. But there's a chance I could take some part-time work at BU and supplement the lack of full-time income, but it would take some finagling. Either way, it's nice to have options.

I finally decided to switch schools, one of the best decisions ive ever made. The public school in my area is sort of ghetto but its actually way nicer than the shitty private school id being going to, and the students are way cooler. The classes are way easier and they only give you work thats necessary for the class...at my old school it was non stop bs busywork. Also my teachers are way nicer and more respectful.

Next years going to be easy as fuck...we have an alternating schedule and right now im only taking 2-3 classes a day (at my old school it was 5 a day). Next year though im only going to have 3 total which means 1-2 classes a day and then im off. Maybe ill be able to get a job or something, its really nice to not have school trying to consume my fucking life anymore

In other words the standards are way lower so now you can fuck about without anybody holding you responsible.

thats true but its a legit better education. They have better teachers and more resources, a way better schedule, and also more classes offered. My old school was like some sort of cult and because i didnt want to be part of it they treated me like shit there

That's an excellent finagling problem to have. Congratulations!

Guess while people are talking about educational shifts I'll jump in. Essentially done with course work (1 academic class left in the catalog and it's an independent study). Starting to put together the bones of my dissertation proposal to get the study rolling by the fall. So much work already done but so much left to do too, primarily just racking up more clinical hours.

Once your proposal is accepted, what's the timeline for completion? One year for the study, another for writing and revising? Longer?

You lot are the most intellectual people of any music forum.

We try. Much was lost the day Zephyrus abandoned us...

Well, the study will run across the Fall and Spring semesters but the writing is sort of off and on. I'll finish writing the results up on internship.
