The "Education" Thread

Recently did orientation for a brief rotation in an inpatient psych care facility and while it appears to be a much improved stay for patients compared with the history of asylums, I'm disappointed in the outcome focus. I should start work in a couple of weeks but there appears to be little to do. The idea seems to be to get them stabilized on meds and shuttle them out. Recidivism rates, according to what I've heard unofficially, are quite high. Well no wonder, there's little behavioral or ecological intervention.
 
got one exam next thursday and then done with my computer science degree in just two years. feels good that before the age of 31 I may have a lucrative career that doesn't involve fucking up my joints :lol:

Do you have the power to direct your work toward intervention? Or are you assigned tasks that you have to complete?
 
im so fucked, i have an online algebra course due in 3 days and ive only done 20 percent of it and that took me 2 months...ive been cheating on the whole thing but no matter what i do i cant do it fast enough. im about to start paying people to do it for me
 
you're cheating and still can't do it fast enough??
that sounds like the runner chick that won a bronze and later got accused of using steroids to do it but still couldn't grab the gold

the only reliable way to cheat on most questions is with a site called brainlly, and unless you pay for an account you only get a few free answers per hour. After that you would have to switch devices. I was blowing through it today, im now 30 percent into it. I think i might be able to finish it.

Now im more worried about my other grades...my spanish grade is a 40 something and i just got a zero on a test because i wasnt in school friday and the deadlines for grades are in two days, so i would have to make it up today but i didnt have time because of the algebra bs. The teacher made a huge mistake in assigning it on friday though because it was prom day and a lot of ppl werent planning on being in school. Most of my other teachers had the sense to not do anything that day.

My history grade for the 3rd quarter is a fucking 0. Idk what even happened, theres no physical way i have a zero in that class, im pretty sure i was supposed to have a 60-70. This quarter is a 39 but as i recall i turned in almost every assignment and got 100s on all the quizzes. Apparently i missed a whole bunch of notes or something. I didnt even know those were graded. Even then i dont get how it would bring my grade so low.

Actually i think the 39 might be the cumulative average for the year, and with the fucked up zero that would make sense considering my other 2 quarters were 60 something

so why aren't you just going to get a GED??

is there really anything you can even think of where a muther-fucking diploma is actually seriously better than a GED in any way that really truly matters??

lots of people get into college with a GED

and most people in most trade-schools have a GED instead of a diploma anyway

and this post is making it look like you'd just flunk-out of a college anyway

so just go get the GED already

i totally agree with you. my dad says that it looks bad to employers because it makes it look like you cant commit to something, and that probably has some truth to it but really i dont think most care

the other thing is that im under contract with my parents to either attend school or pay rent in order to continue living with them. I dont want to live here much longer but i dont really have a choice for the time being

most likely i wouldnt stop there, my plan was to get the ged or diploma, do construction or something for a bit to fund truck driving school, then get my CDL and do trucking. There are plenty of other options but that sounds solid

most people in most trade schools have a GED instead of a diploma anyway
and it looks like a trade school would be better for you than college anyway
and once you get some trade certification (or a bachelor's degree) nobody will even notice (let alone care) that you got a GED instead of a diploma

also
would consider moving into some sort of spider-web-house where you're only having to pay like one-sixth of the rent or something like that

Finally graduated, but can't get my diploma until I pay up on my remaining account balance. All school parking tickets :-/

Initially I would just tell them to fuck off and they wouldn't be getting a cent from of me out of protest (our parking options are absolute garbage, even the professors openly complain about it), but I figure I'd just suck it up and pay it...the problem is coming up with the money.

Being irreverent and abrasive came back to bite me in the butt

Nah, the writing never stops. I have to finish two book reviews by the end of the month, revisions on an article before the end of the summer, and submit a book proposal to multiple presses before my new position starts in September.
