the first some what extreme metal album you heard... and liked

Same here. It's funny now to think that this album actually scared me back then. The guitar work was definitely a selling point for me, but for the first couple of listens I kept thinking, "What the FUCK is wrong with their guitar amps? This is ridiculously heavy."

 Nice

Yeah, I hadn't heard anything like it either. I was digging shit like Slayer and Pantera at the time too and I bought this and was like 'What the fuck is this?'

Wait, it was Six Feet Under's 13 in like 6th or 7th grade. I was not sacred or anything but the vocals were too much for me.

First extreme album was Sepultura - Morbid Visions .. I didn't really like it at the time. Then it was Slayer - Divine Intervention, I liked this one but hardly listen to it anymore.

Then it was, Killengod - Into the Ancient Moon.

Kreator- Pleasure To Kill

That was album that singlehandedly made me stop taking things like virtuosity in mind when I listened to music (I would only listen to shit like Yngwie and such at that time), and pretty much initiated my interest in metal. I wouldn't really appreciate it until my ability to analyze music improved, but it still played a monstrous role in fueling my interest in this type of music.

The first extreme metal song I heard was "Han" by Sad Legend, when someone sent it to me online.

The first extreme metal album I heard and enjoyed was Filosofem by Burzum.

I'm not counting thrash, otherwise it'd be RiB or maybe some Pantera. The first true extreme metal (with extreme vox and all) was some random shit I heard online when I should have been doing a french project in 8th grade. It was some site with random samples of obscure death metal songs (it wasn't a metal site, either, it seemed like one of those generated web sites tbh). I heard a couple songs on there that seemed awful cuz of the vocals, but there was one I really liked. I remembered it was called Twisted Tower of Fire, but I never knew who it was by. I forgot about it for a couple years until the other day I remembered it and searched on google. Turns out it was Twisted Tower Of Fire by Dark Army.

The keyboard intro is fucking awesome, aside from that pretty average, but I still like it. Doesn't approach the epic evil awesomeness it had for me the first time I heard it way back when.

The first extreme metal album I had was In Flames - The Jester Race. It was a blind buy based on the cover and the price ($5). Needless to say it fucking kicked my ass.

Here's the first extreme metal song I listened to. It was good back when I first heard it, and it's good now.

Lol. Mine was probably SlipKnot back in 7th and 8th grade...I listened to so much shitty music back in the day...

The first real extreme metal album I listened to was Onset Of Putrefaction by Necrophagist and probably Prowler In The Yard big Pig Destroyer shortly after.

Probably Orphaned Land - Mabool if it counts as extreme, not so sure. If not, then Amon Amarth - Versus the World (only a few months ago). I heard a few songs of theirs that I liked but this album was fucking fantastic. Amon Amarth is still the only death metal that I actually like.

Cradle of Filth's "From the Cradle to Enslave" and "Her Ghost in the Fog" are what got me into "extreme metal." Most of the stuff I had listened to over the years prior to this was mainly stuff bordering on metal, but more so hard rock, industrial and gothic so I guess this wasn't much of a stretch. However, I remember the feeling of how overwhelmingly heavy some of the extreme metal bands were when I first listened to them - I actually really miss that feeling.

My gateway albums, in chronological order:
Metallica-Ride the Lightning
Nightwish-Oceanborn
Tristania-Widow's Weeds
Slayer-Reign in Blood
Death-Symbolic
Hypocrisy-Abducted
Behemoth-Zos Kia Cultus
Dimmu Borgir-Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
Satyricon-Nemesis Divina
Emperor-Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk

A pretty standard set.

As far as I remember, the first extreme metal bands I heard were Death and Deicide. My first Death Metal album was Leprosy. I won't go into thrash, cause it'd be Slayer or Sepultura or something and that was a while before hearing Death Metal.

First Black Metal I heard was Emperor, and I hated it. I was too busy getting into DM around the same time. I tried again a month or 2 later with Burzum, and loved it. My first Black metal album was Hvis Lyset Tar Oss.
