the first some what extreme metal album you heard... and liked

Nuclear Assault's Out of Order maybe.. If that counts as extreme..

Carcass(Heartwork),Opeth(Blackwater Park),Arch Enemy(Burning Bridges) and Children of Bodom(Something Wild) are what really got me into the more 'extreme' metal. Before that it was mainly old school Metallica,Ozzy Osbourne,Pantera. My first black metal album was Dimmu Borgir Death Cult Armageddon.

My oldest brother used to play doom stuff like Crowbar and Moonspell and I liked it, but I didn't "seek it out." I liked it, but in that point in my life, I wasn't seeking out music.

I didn't actually start to explore "extreme" metal until after a friend sent me In Flames - The Jester's Dance and Soilwork - Song of the Damned

I think that's how it happened, at least
I don't think I ever really heard extreme metal and didn't like it. It was just a question of when I made the initiative to find more

Probably Orphaned Land - Mabool if it counts as extreme, not so sure. If not, then Amon Amarth - Versus the World (only a few months ago). I heard a few songs of theirs that I liked but this album was fucking fantastic. Amon Amarth is still the only death metal that I actually like.

Try some melodic death metal then.
Paths of Possession
Early In Flames
Early Dark Tranquility
etc

First metal album ever was Blind Guardian's A Night at the Opera, but first extreme metal albums were Meshuggah - Catch Thirty-Three and Lamb of God - As the Palaces Burn, which would help ease me into death metal, of which my first albums were Deicide - Best of (Roadrunner Compilation) and Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper.

reign in blood. didn't appreciate it back then half as much as i do now, though. first "extreme metal" album that i loved is i suppose blackwater park

I bought best of deicide in year 7 (aged 13) just to 'see'. I liked it quite a bit for the oh I only listened to Metallica and Priest before this woah this is heavy!
