The Gaming Thread

! and yes, caleb we will have new users every day now

also, i have never formatted my PC. can anyone tell me about this? i have been curious about it for a while, hearing it's a good way to improve performance. i have all my steam games on its own harddrive, so that is not really an issue. all i have on my main HD is music and documents for school. i could probably borrow an external harddrive from a friend.

i guess my question is, is it worth it to do this, and how difficult is it?

Formatting is very easy. All you have to do is make sure you back up everything you need (don't forget to look in the base documents folder and shit, some games save there if you want to keep them), and download your latest essential drivers ahead of time and burn them. After that just put in your Windows CD, restart your computer and boot from CD/DVD and follow the instructions. It takes about 45 mins on a modern PC and although it's not really a necessity, a formatted computer just FEELS better. Everything is clean and junk files and annoying shit disappears. :)

However if you are not experiencing any real issues it can seem like extra work since most people end up re-installing a lot of the same shit and ending up with a similar setup within a month . I personally still format once every 2 years or so regardless of performance. I like to keep my System and Windows folders relatively organized and risk free, and even after re-installing the programs and games I want to play in the immediate future it only takes a short while, so I find it's something worth doing.

Yes you can stream it on your android device. And it will scrobble to last.fm. To do so, on a pc you need to run a script extension (one time set up) and on your android simply have the last.fm app installed and set to scrobble the google music player.

http://www.danielslaughter.com/projects/google-music-with-lastfm/ this is the script I used, I forget if I had to get a new one after beta or not. A simple google search will hook you up with a functional one of that no longer works.

that seems pretty neat actually. i should buckle down and get a phone, i dont think i could get one without like 30-60 gigs of space though.i like having all my music on me. if that program is good though it might be a better solution

When I upgrade to the iPhone 5, I'm going to get the 16 GB. No need for 64GB of storage anymore or 128 or whatever it will be.

Spotify has changed everything for me! I stream almost everything now.

ive decided borderlands 2 is a day one buy for me :D. now i am officially not watching or reading any new material. i'll just assume it is exactly like the first one (which i loved)

whats everyones opinion on gaming keyboards. im not talking about investing like a ton of money into it, but i have a standard dell keyboard. was looking into ones with macros and backlit keys (great for searching up porno in the pitch black darkness of a basement). saw one that looked pretty good for like 60$

I use a Logitech G11 keyboard. It's awesome, seriously and it's only about $50 I think. It has EXCELLENT and adjustable backlit keys (Unlike some lit keyboards), 18 macro keys on the left so they are not intrusive to the shape of the keyboard, a gaming mode switch so you don't alt tab or windows key yourself, plus media controls on the top that look better than most. And this is the low-end model. If it sounds like I'm piling on the praise it's because this is hands down the best keyboard I've ever used, right down to the key-pushes and resistance for typing.

The successor series of keyboards is the G110 and G150. The G110 is similar to the G11 (My keyboard) but more size efficient (I admit this is a fairly big keyboard.), and the G150 is pretty much the same case. They reduced the number of macro keys on the left to make it a more standard size keyboard.

So then since the G110 and G150 are what you'll actually be able to find this is what I recommend. Not sure if the price is too much though, it's about $70 at tigerdirect. For a keyboard that is a bit high, but since I've had this for 6 years and it's in 100% condition I found it a worthy investment.

The G150 is the higher model, but all it adds is an LCD screen that I found unnecessary, but if you had the cash I guess it's a nice addition.
