I completely agree, inter-species sexuality is a much neglected field, which is bad, cause we don't have access to secondary material on the topic, but it's good at the same time, cause we can study whichever aspect of it, since it hasn't been an overresearched field.

As far as the Gimli-Legolas relationship is concerned, just look at the part from the second film, when Gimli asks Legolas to throw him over the trench. That is a clearly homoerotic moment.
