Definitely, obscura is the most complex album I've ever heard, both in terms of songwriting and musicianship. It pisses all over anything dream theatre or symphony x have ever done.

Composition can be technical without individual instruments being technical in themselves. But I agree with you that the question was absurd given the context of this thread and traditionally, talking about technicality in metal revolves around the kind of bands previously discussed.

saying something is technical implies a high level of instrumental proficiency.
