The New album is called Watershed : Out June 2nd

Question for Victoria:

How are the lyrics? Mikael has made many mentions of the fact that he wanted to write dark music, both instrumentally and lyrically. I don't suppose you've had a chance to read them, have you?

Also, the song titles seem to hint at some sort of concept album. Any idea if that is true or not?

Thanks!

^ Lyrics were not presented. From what I can hear/interpret, yes, they're very dark and personal. Unsure if Watershed is a tight or loose concept album.

The new titles seems so "new metal" to me :erk: Guess they will grow on me

Lucky you, the real titles are:
Petrified Forest
Aenoic Formations
In the midst of winter
The Mourning Flute of Wildeggar
and
Naadir Ritual

Puh, they where almost going "new metal" with those other titles. Of course they decided to save the "old metal" ones for greater impact. All hail old-metal titles.

I actually got a little rock voice going now. It sounds like Peter Criss singing "Black diamond" or something. Or like some drunk dude screaming outside in the cold...

"Would" is alright...pretty close to the original. But I gotta say worse than the original..I can't match Layne, but I love the song so why not....?

Sounds like a fair deal to me, will be really nice to 'ear it, as well as the other covers, let alone the godamned album! I like new-opeth-release-anticipation-time, lots of stupid people guessing wild and drawing early conclusions, but I don't mind really, as long as I get the good anticipation-vibe going.

What in the world about those song titles suggests a concept. I swear some people just like justifying their beliefs with anything.
Akerfeldt said he was considering a concept during his post-Lindgren interview. Seems to be a coherancy in the titles that reminded me of a concept. I could be wrong, but the circumstances surrounding the band seem right for something like that. It would be awesome either way. Hurray for turning a simple observation into an accusation...

billyneverdies is one of the most absolutely retarded people on these boards, burningsky.
What? Coming from the guy who talks shit in nearly every post? Do you even know me? I'll take that insult to heart, bitch.

i know you well enough to figure out that you're a fucking retard. how in the name of sweet fuck can you deduce that the album may have a concept based on song titles? let's not delve into the other "hai guyz, im a fucking retard" moments you've had.

lol, a "coherancy in the titles that reminded you of a concept"? can we get a five year old in here to decipher what the fuck that means?

anyone else worried about 'Porcelain Heart'? Co-written by Akesson...I don't know if im ready for Opeth to be anything more than just Mikael writing. I know that 'Derelict Herds' is co-written by Per. But he's been in the band a while, and knows what the general vibe is. Akesson is the n00b of the band. Hopefully it's not the outcast of the album, and i hope its not too noticeable that Akesson co-wrote it. Your thoughts?

mikael has never really given any band-mate creative freedom before (at least in the writing process) so this is surely a new step for opeth, but i'm sure that mike has done more than enough "proof-reading" if you will. i'm sure the songs will turn out fine, and if mike had a problem with either of him, he would fix them.

Not worried in the least. Stop trying to invent drama... you're way off.

it's a genuine concern is it not?

No. Fred is not a "noob" to the band ffs. You think Mike asked him to be in the band then handed him some Opeth CD's and said, "here... take these home and learn what we sound like."....??? You think Mike would co-write a song with Per or Fred if he thought it would in any way fuck up the record? There isn't even a shred of logic in this line of so-called "reasoning". Not bashing you personally... I genuinely just don't "get it".

erm... James. the fact is that opeth has a VERY different line-up this album, and for the first time in many albums, mike has handed over some of the writing to his band-mates. now i myself am not concerned about this but I can see how others are. it's a new opeth.

I really like the idea of Per co writing because he is one great musician. I want to hear the awesome keyboards he has added to this new record as well as that church organ! :goggly:

^^ok.... but the term I would use would be "curiosity" rather than "concern" which to me implies uncertainty or some sort of apprehension, and I have neither. I am very interested and curious about what effect the new members will have on the sound and what the new set of skills will bring.... but I'm not the least bit worried that somehow the "vibe" will somehow be bastardized.
