I'm having a hard time grasping it. I think that's good. Maybe it's the quality of the recording that is keeping me from making a judgment.

No but seriously, this is really cool. It definitely sounds like they are heading in a slightly different direction. Of course that doesn't really mean this song is a good indication of what the rest of the album is going to sound like.

Edit: Damn! That stop/start transition around 4:20 and then the weird lead in the next riff is sweet! Methinks he is using a slide?

Edit2: The riff right around 7:00 sounds excellent.

Yeah I was talking to Sarah about that part at 4:20 or so, it is pretty sweet. The quality is so bad though that I can't really comment too much on whether or not it's a good song.

I hope there is a lot more parts like the one that comes in around the 7 minute mark. Outside of the clean tone parts that Opeth is surely brilliant at, those are my favorite style Opeth riffs.

The sound quality pretty shit,
but from what I listened to it, it sounded very promising, but like Coy said, I'm going to give a more accurate judgement of it when I hear the actual studio version of the song.

It's funny. In that Melloboat thread on the Opeth forum there's a few people going on about how it's an off shoot of the "old" Opeth forum and how great it once was or some elitist BS. The funny thing is it's coming from people that signed up like 2 years ago that like to call others newbs.

If only they knew what came before them. It reminds me there's a SOT2 forum. The precursor of the ********* forum.

I like artificial harmonics. And it must but said that I throw them in every now and again in my playing. That being said, here is a MUCH better quality version of the song. Same performance, but better audio.
