It's actually 2 special days in one this year. Hemelvaart (that would be "ascension" in English) and Bevrijdingsdag which I guess would be something like "day of freedom" in English

@Gtranq: WTF!!! Too good. Usually I see a focus on death in your pictures (probably just cos I've seen you're winter and autumn pics ) So seeing these is truly a pleasant surprise. The colours are almost too much.
