This poll is for the bands that made it big because of my poll I did a year ago. Which of these bands will totally break into the mainstream (and by mainstream I mean American mainstream . . . because I have no idea what anybody elses mainstream is like).

Arch Enemy. Cannibal Corpse has flirted with the mainstream for years, but I don't think they'll ever make it.

It's Dimmu I think. I was quite surprised when their music was selected for the latest Del Toro movie trailer. Once you've hit soundtrack status, the hollywood walk of fame beckons...

...having said that, the latest Arch Enemy is the biggest selling CM record in history, but I don't know how many 'units' that reflects compared to a mainstream record, so I'll stick with Dimmu.

I was forced to vote for Arch Enemy. I think their next album will be even more mainstream, with more clean vocals, and lots of Angela in the press.

Cradle of Filth and Dimmu also have a great chance.

Meshuggah is just too complex to get much bigger.

Cave In is already on RCA, but their last album didn't perform like the label was hoping (once again, this band is just to complex for the public).

If In Flames gets rid of the clean vocals, they will also have a great shot.

Pretty much all of the bands in this poll are played weekly on Headbangers Ball.

Nevermore is cursed. They will never be much bigger.

Yeah, maybe, but she wasn't in the press at all for AoR. Well, compared to the WoS release where they practically remodelled their website around the WoS 'look & feel'.

If In Flames gets rid of the clean vocals, they will also have a great shot.
Gets rid of clean vocals?

Yes. Bands like Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, and Meshuggah are making big waves on Ozzfest, Headbangers Ball, and so on without submitting to shitty clean vocals. In Flames needs to concentrate on their aggressive side more.

I really should work for some major label or something. I'm so smart!

I'm surprised at how many students in my highschool I see wearing In Flames shirts. Although, they are all from the "Reroute to Remain" era. And none of them have heard "The Jester Race" or "Lunar Strain//Subterranean" or even "Colony" or "Clayman". I think they've got a shot though.

Hmm. I'm forced to pick Arch Enemy as well. If only because Angela will be competition for Amy Lee. Especially with more clean vocals added.

eh? Still doesn't make sense. Clean vocals is inherently going to bring more mainstream success. Lamb of God might be on the OzzFest roster but they're not taking the slots that would normally go to Marilyn Manson, System of a Down, POD, etc.

US Mainstream = daytime radio, daytime TV, movie soundtracks, supporting Linkin' Park etc. No?

Arch Enemy and In Flames. Arch Enemy because of their latest album's success, and because the band and the label are marketing The Angela Gossow Band very intelligently.

In Flames because of obvious reasons. The band has tasted the fruits ($) of success and are greedy for more. I expect their next release to do quite well.

Cursed? Don't you mean blessed...? Considering that any band in the mainstream must, per definition, have turned into complete and utter garbage?

Depends on how you look at it I guess. Nevermore is infintely better than Arch Enemy, but the label is practically ready to drop them. Their music is easily ready to make waves in the mainstream (probably to many solos, though), but for some reason Arch Enemy gets all the money from the label.

I thought Century Media intentionally held back the money to Nevermore because their contract was running out after this album (so why spend money on making Nevermore successful when we never will reap the benefits anyway because we here at Century Media care NOTHING about music and ALL about money. Meet my gay husband, Nuclear Blast. Our hobbies include ripping bands off and bathing in money. kthx)

Right on the money. God, what shit labels.

Century Media: Blind Guardian, Borknagar, Dark Tranquility, Extol, Finntroll, Iced Earth, Into Eternity, Krisiun, Lacuna Coil, Naglfar, Nevermore, Rapture, Sigh, Solefald, Suidakra, and so on.

Works fine for me, but that's just my opinion.

There you go. And add Eyehategod, and the labels new band Eyes of Fire.

That's a small number of class bands compared to how many are on the label.
