The Official Good Television Thread

I'm loving this new Dexter series. Seeing him be plunged into a world of serial killers is a fresh look at how he moves amongst people. We only ever got small flashes of that in the original show. I quite liked Dexter: New Blood but this is even better.

I've also been watching Chief of War, which is really good too.

I'm just fucking elated to finally see the the confrontation between Dexter and Batista that we should've gotten in 2013. It feels like they're taking cues from the Walter-Hank dynamic in Breaking Bad and even if the writing is nowhere near that level their scenes together really do have a comparable gravitas.

I want Batista to kill Dexter, he deserves the kill. But being a cop he'll probably try to arrest him and lock him up so he can escape and keep kicking the dead horse.

Gawd I hope he doesn't let him escape, that will be worse than Batista dying.
Although it does seem like they'll get another season if they want to and there is no season without Dexter.

Man, that was a pretty weak episode of Dexter. Just when I was starting to think they'd learnt from their past mistakes, they go and repeat them.

So this is the third time they've resolved Dexter's moral dilemma for him by having an ancillary character kill off the character that was onto him. Lame. At least they got a good face-to-face before dying.

Side note: I hate the lady detective so much. At the start of the season she almost preternaturally makes the exact right assumptions about what happened with Ryan Foster, but when Angel brings her the Bay Harbor Butcher case on a silver platter she's completely dismissive of it. It's like this show continuously makes characters really smart to establish a threat to Dexter, only to turn them really stupid so he can keep getting away with it.

^ Yeah I agree. It's part of the reason why I don't know if I'll bother with the next season. He's just becoming a copy cat of himself. It's not really surprising he's been going for a while now and it's hard not to repeat some things but the writers need to try harder.

Since they are not doing another season of Origins they ought to be able to get the next one of this right, but I wonder if they will.

Anyone see that miniseries about Griselda Blanco, with Sofia Vergara?

I have mixed feelings on it but if you like s01 you'll probably like the whole thing. From my memories of the finale, it sticks the landing something fierce.

(To explain said mixed feelings, I think it's pretty good overall but there are a lot of moments where the comedy really does not land for me. I also kinda hate the fan favorite episode of the series - it's in season 2, you'll know it when you see it.)

I'm almost done with s1 and I'll say the tone doesn't always land for me, especially a lot of the stuff with Winkler, but the episodes always balance themselves out in some other way. I can see myself finishing this series pretty quickly, the episodes don't drag at all. Very bingeable.

Hey @CiG have you seen that Mystery Road Origins starts on Sept 21?
It might be up for immediate streaming as soon as the first episode airs, I'm not sure since not all ABC shows get that treatment
