A totally brilliant record, which has stood the test of time. Leppard is total garbage today (and has been for 20 years now), but their early records are essential.

uuuuh, no. X is great ! Kinda soft rock, but great.

Yeah, Momma's Boys was great (McManus brothers!). But they were from Ireland, weren't they? So technically not NWOBHM.

hmmm, yeah, geographically you are right. Personally I would count them to NWOBHM anyway. However, I will stop here, any Irish person on the board would kick my balls if he/ she reads that ...

Well the Mamas Boys were from Enniskillen which is in Northern Ireland which is part of Britain, so yes they definitely were NWOBHM.

In fact Pat Mcmanus was playing in either Belfast or Londonderry a few days ago on 26th November and I know someone who was going to see him, but I've not heard yet how it went.

Damn! I start a NWOBHM tread and I hardly have the time to participate. In fact I hardly have the time to post at all.

Ok here it goes. About late 1979 I picked up a copy of the UK music mag Sounds. And I read about all these UK bands I never heard of like Angelwitch, Iron Maiden and Diamond Head. Then in 1980 a friend of mine got back from a few days in London and brought back a whole load of singles from very interesting bands like Hellenbach, Dragster and what have you.

In early 80 I already got myself Metal for Mutha's I, so I knew a few bands already. Then when reading sounds I saw an advertisement from Diamond Head. You could order their White Album and so I did! That period I also started to get me some singles. Among them:

Hellenbach - Out to get You
The Handsome Beast - Breaker
Sledgehammer - Sledgehammer and Living in Dreams
Toad the Wet Sprocket - Reaching for the Sky
Praying Mantis - Praying Mantis
Tora Tora - Red Sun Setting
Raven - Don't Need Your Money
- Hard Ride
- Crash Bang Wallop 12"
- Break The Chain
Bitches Sin - Always Ready
Black Rose - No Point Runnin'
Blitzkrieg - Blitzkrieg
AIIZ - No Fun After Midnight
Aragorn - Black Ice
Angelwitch - Loser
- Sweet Danger "12
Cryer - The Single
Dark Star - Lady of Mars
Diamond Head - Shoot Out the Lights
- Waited Too Long
- Diamond Lights EP 12"
Fist - Name Rank And Serial Number
Gaskin - I'm No Fool
Girlschool - Yea Right
Girlschool - Hit and Run
Girlschool - C'mon lets go
Girlschool - St Valentines Day Massacre EP with Motorhead
Hollow Ground - Warlord
Holocaust - Heavy metal Mania
- Heavy Metal Mania
- Smokin' Valves
- Coming Through
Jaguar - Back Street Woman
- Axe Crazy
More - We are the Band
Mytra - Death And Destiny EP
Oxym - Music power
Satan - Kiss of Death
- Into The Fire Cassette
Satanic Rites - Live to Ride
Split Beaver - Savage
Sweet Savage - Take no Prisoners
Trespass - Jealousy
- Bright Lights
Triarchy - Save the Khan
Tygers of Pang Tang - Hellbound
- Don't Stop By 12"
Tyson Dog - Eat the Rich
Vardis - If I Were King
Venom - In League with Satan
Warrior - Dead When It Comes To Love
Weapon - It's A Mad Mad World
White Spirit - Backs To The Grind
Witchfinder General - Burning A Sinner
Witchfynde - I'd Rather Go Wild

Some albums:

Vardis - 100 MPH Their debut live album. Great album!!
Diamond Head - Original White album
Brute Force
Metal Explosion
Heavy Metal Heroes
Metal for Muthas I and II
Roxscalibur

Around '81/82 I saw a few bands at the Dynamo like Satan, Raven, Jaguar, and Avenger. The Tygers of Pang Tang performed a few times in Holland. I saw them in Den Hague, Groningen and some place I forgot where they played as support act of Gillan.

Problem with the bands I saw was that I saw very few bands a whole lot of times. I must have seen Raven at least 8 times and Jaguar 6 times.

Even despite the gigs I saw, the NWOBHM was a distant phenomenon for me. I wish that I could have seen White Spirit and Diamond Head during those day's. I would not have minded seeing Sledgehammer, Vardis and Weapon live as well. :)

O well, I still enjoyed it immensely!

GUESS WHAT KIDDIES? Before Witchfinder General disbanded they recorded a LIVE ALBUM! FINALLY AFTER 22 YEARS you'll get to hear the infamous Witchfinder General performing LIVE at their peak with their most classic lineup.

There are 13 tracks and over 70 minutes of British Doom. This will be scheduled for release in Early 2006.

Great news. :)

Is there anybody who know's something about Avenger? I mean, are there plans to make a new album?

When I saw them in Hoorn they said they would come back in 2006, but I can't find any information about it. There is no website.

So maybe someone knows more?

I tried to find some more info on them. The problem is they have no website. Maybe you could start one for them?

The only thing I found was this cool recent interview with them:

I remember once that drummer Gary Young accidently destroyed a flowerpot during a party in the house where I rented a room. The residents were not exactly happy when they learned about that. :tickled:

Thanks. :D

16th November 2005 :: New Studio Album ::
Avenger has been busy writing material over the last few months for their greatly anticipated comeback album and will enter the studio early in the new year.

So far the working title of the bands third opus and first album since 1985 is "THE SLAUGHTER NEVER STOPS"
The final track listing will include new numbers such as:-
Dry Guillotine
Shot To Hell
Lay Siege To Your Soul
Ghetto Messiah
Communion
Race Against Time
C.U.N.L.
The Killer In Me
F8
Losing Face
Devils Arithmetic
Midnight Mass
Four old Avenger songs will also be revamped and re-recorded for the release.
This release will mark the appearance of new member Liam A. Thompson for the first time on an Avenger album.
Watch this space for more details.

I can't wait until it comes out. I'm really curious how it would sound.

NP: Hellion - 'Run For Your Life'

I probably got started the same time Hawk did. I remember seeing a Kerrang!
magazine in a non-corporate record shop, Don't know what caught my eye,
possibly an Ian Gillan cover? Issue #7 maybe? Damn, it's been a while!
I liked just about everything from Saxon to Maiden to Def Leppard and everything else in between. Hell, I remember the Tygers of Pan Tang before Sykes was in the band... This particular record store also carried TONS of imports. More than any store in the area. At that point, I was beyond hooked! While I was doing some cleaning, I found my "Trooper" giant Denim patch, as well as my Beast On The Road patch from '82. I hadn't seen those for YEARS... I think in a box somewhere I have an old denim with NoTB on the back.....I bet it doesn't fit me now! As for Leppard, I agree that they started going downhill with Pyromania. The first 2 are classic, and I still play Wasted when I have time to fiddle around with the guitar :Spin:

Well you don't look a day older than 25 looking at your pics, which means you learn to headbang in your cradle ;)

Besides it's the spiritual age what counts :D

NP: High Power - 'Cauchemar'
