The School/Uni Thread

Security for this big chemical company (hence the DHS job. He knows how to protect chemical plants and critical infrastructure). I don't remember what he did before that, but he was also an Intel Analyst in the Marine Corps.

Actually he was recently involved in a bit of controvery in NJ because he wrote new laws regarding the security of chemical plants that took some power out of the states hands and NJ was not too thrilled about it.

Yeah he's pretty cool.

This is (supposed to be) pretty common knowledge.

Pretty weak argument. Whenever you finally graduate and go job hunting for a position that requires more than a HS diploma, lemme know how it goes. I know people with all kinds of degrees that are more technically inclinded than what you are studying and it's nearly impossible for them to get hired, or find something they actually enjoy with good pay. Thoth-Amon being one of them. Which explains why he is going back to school for something that is a pretty much guarunteed thing.

Signing up for a carpool to art museums with a kid whose qualification for driving people was that they like death metal = I win.

I'm off to Uni next year, still not sure exactly what I'm gonna do though. All I know is that it will be from Architecture, Engineering or some Art & Design related thing. Only problem is, to become an architect, it seems that I need to study for fucking YEARS. BAWWWwww.

What's a career that you don't need to study for years to get into?

Sales
Truck driver
customer service
union type work

Dave does pretty well in sales with little education, so..props to that one.
-Truck drivers need an education and the ones who haul hazardous materials need a lot more :]
CS...I have no idea
-What is "union type work?" People who practice trade skill jobs like plumbers and electricians need an education too :/

I realize there are careers you can get into without an education, they just aren't great ones....not to make further fuel the "I WANT A JOB THAT MAKES ME HAPPY AND NOT NECESSARILY MONEY" debate.

Sales is easy if you have the right personality. Otherwise, it's a really shitty thing to do your entire life (unless you're selling something you're passionate about).

Truck drivers don't need 4 years of schooling though. That was my point. Same with the union type jobs (plumbing, electricians, etc).

If you want to do something that makes you happy, you have to look at your interests and shit you enjoy doing in your spare time I guess. i really enjoyed learning Finance when I took it. However, I'd enjoy running a rock/metal bar or running my own record shop.

If I'd enjoy running a rock/metal bar or running my own record shop.

I'm gonna do this if I ever get successful enough where I can do it and not have it screw me if it goes under. It would be like Vintage Vinyl but the whole store being metal/classic and prog rock. There would be a fuckload of merch to.

Well, the store I would run would be about 60% metal and related merchandise. The other 40% would be rock/pop/whatever so I could at least make SOME money from running it. I don't think it would be profitable here in Cincinnati if it was 90% metal and related merchandise. It might be different in other parts of the country though.

I would have a shit ton of used music too.

Real Estate. You just need to take a single course and pass it.

And the test is about as hard to pass as the bar exam.

I know a guy who had to take it twice to pass it.

I'm gonna rent a tiny piece of shit hole in the wall and set up a tiny obscure DM/BM shop in it. I'm only gonna open like twice a week at obscure hours. It's gonna be kvlt as fuck. Of course it's not going to be my only job, and I'm gonna need to work extra hard to get it to be possible...but hey, anything is possible when you're V5.

Also, I am VERY serious.

Yeah, if I was to make it all metal, I would do something like that.
