Is it a dumb idea to try and replace this desktop with a laptop? And I don't mean I want to have two computers - I'll sell or trade this beast - I just don't want a big ass desk cluttering up my living space. Surely even a modest modern laptop can run circles around this 2002 Dell. amirite?

The bang/buck ratio for laptops pretty much sucks, but most computering people never ever need anything more than a decent laptop for all their warezing and chatting needs anyway.

my macbook does everything i need, ie internet, itunes (keep the files in my external hd), and garageband for songwriting memory-aid purposes and assorted fuckaboutery. don't play games, use protools or photoshop or what have you, i've never bought a piece of software for this computer. and i don't download shit either.

somehow i think you'd be better off with a laptop too.
