Thought of another non-metal album in my albums of 2012 list.
Joanne Shaw Taylor
Almost Always Never - 2012 was a bit of a big year for JST as she got a little world wide recognition as being the guitarist for Annie Lennox at the Queens Jubilee celebration that was broadcast around the world. For those unfamiliar with Joanne Shaw Taylor, she is a phenomenal female singer/guitarist that has won the British blues Award for Best Female Vocalist in 2010 and the British Blues Awards for Best Female Vocalist and Songwriter of the Year in 2011 for her song "Same as it Never Was" from her
Diamonds in the Dirt album.
While she's known mostly as a blues musician, she has really expanded her writing on her new disc
Always Almost Never, at times bringing in a bit of Zeppelin, Floyd, and psychedelic/jam stylings to her already existing SRV, Albert Collins blues background.
Once again, if your open to music outside of metal - Joanne Shaw Taylor should be someone you look into.
As a metal related note, the bassist on this album is none other than founding member/guitarist of early progressive metal legends Watchtower - Billy White.
There is an interview with her in this months Premier Guitar:
