The work thread

Ender Rises

Wass sappening?
To celebrate the fact that my poor bum ass has finally gotten a job as a waiter, I decided to make a thread about work. So post shit about work. Bitching, stories, all that fun stuff. I know since I'm going to be a waiter I will have plenty of bitching to do... I've heard some shit about waiting tables and dealing with asshole customers.

I have to learn the entire menu before the 10th of June. That shouldn't be too hard if I actually work at it... I hope. I've never eaten at the place I got hired at. I hope they don't have a massive ass menu. Something tells me they will.

I used to work at a Music & Arts center. I would get instruments and stuff for rental customers. There were a few bad things about it. Like stacking violins and violas, or trying to fit stuff on shelves. Me and the other rental people didn't have much work to do so we would stand around, and since the manager would get pissed when we didn't work I would pretend to rearrange stuff.

It was a temporary job and I got about $200 from all the work I did.

Well I work at Perfume Plant making a bunch of different fragrances and work with dangerous chemicals. We were pretty caught up on work and this guy was cleaning stuff out. He found a small metal container about the size of a fist and he decided to open it with a screwdriver over at the desk, and the electric shock exploded the can. Ruined the new computer moniter and burnt the desk. Somehow no one was hurt but very cool to see. Still have no idea what was in the can.

I'm a third generation mason (working for my father's company) and I love it.

I do groundskeeping at a local bed & breakfast/farm estate. Even though it's a lot of physical labor, sometimes messy, I like the job because I'm starting at 8 bucks an hour (will be raised soon I was assured), I get to work outside in the fresh air on my island, I pay zero gas expenses because it's across the street, and best of all I do something different every day. Tasks range from gardening and landscaping to hauling equipment, painting and maintaining the inn and farm buildings, and helping out neighbors who are friends with the innkeepers. The inn also runs a fancy restaurant so perhaps I'll have a few times helping out there, too.

The place is run by a guy from Switzerland and his wife from England. His son works the farm and grows organic produce, which they sell at the farm store on the estate. They have a large forest on their property so they sell firewood too.

This is my job for the summer. So I'll be leaving it in late August to go back up to school. I probably won't get a job in autumn but I may work at the dining hall again next spring.

I trade commodities and do freelance consulting part-time (as in 'less than 5hr/week')

...and would pop my white collar, but I've never had to buy a suit.

I almost forgot. I'm gonna try to get a job at the local co-op. I have the application somewhere, I'm just lazy.
