things you hate with a passion

Yeah, I'd say so. The cameras and such help stop crime. I hardly care if some remote camera on a street corner shows a guy in an office footage of me scratching my balls while walking.

Aristotle said that Democracy is the worst kind of government.

Yeah, it's totally a shithole. Let's revert to a polytheistic monarchy like the Aztecs.

JAGEagent I am sorry for commenting that you look young. I look much older than I am, you can look in the pics thread and make fun of me for looking like a grandmother if you want.

Trying to decide whether to quote Ben Franklin now or later....

@JG: A democracy (majority rules) is the worst form of government. It is easy to sway the current opinion of a mob. Mob rule leads to chaos which eventually leads to tyranny when the average person begins to demand stability.

I dunno. China's Capitalist-Semi-Democratic-Semi-Fascism is pretty awesome.

It depends actually. It can be easy to sway them one way, but with the cultural settings made by democracy, the people will more often than not sway back. This sounds like the reverse of Marx's class conflict theory.

If by worst you mean more people suffering, then that's kind of stupid, tbh.

If you don't understand the massive problems with these statements there is no hope for you.

Tyranny, actually.

His ideal government was a constitutional, limited democracy, or a broad oligarchy.

A constitutionally limited elected government is the one least able to become tyrannical. It took close to two centuries for the American system to dispense with following Constitutional limits.

First one is a joke. And second I will elaborate on:

In the stronger democracies around the world, "tyranny" from a "mob rule" can hardly occur, or even for very long, because as soon as everything reaches a kind of tyranny, the people will change it because they have the power, and know they have the power, to do so.

That's not what I mean. I mean if the government gets bad and too omnipresent, the people will change that.

Notice that I'm speaking of omnipresence in relativity to the presence of government before.

People who are afraid of more presence of government in a democratic society.

Actually I'd have to disagree with you. I really hate people who have some kind of dream of a completely globalised, grey, shitty society were everything that ever happens is because of profit, but according to their retarded beliefs, everyone is free, despite the fact that in the process of creating that society, the power of the people had to be hugely worn away at, because they were to 'racist', 'xenophobic', 'traditional' or whatever other insult they choose.

I actually like the idea of having the military power vested in the population, and their personal weapons. It basically fucks over the people I described above.

With all due respect this is not something I ever want to see. Not unless we can forcibly remove the 85% of the population which are unfit to make informed decisions involving weapons.

Um no, if we did that then the many nations who are not willing to do away with weapons would seize the opportunity and eat us.

So who do you see "fit" to make "informed decisions" involving weapons, and what does that even mean?

We should do away with all weapons in general.

 I guess you want trees and rocks to be illegal. Can't be having people crushing skulls with boulders and thick branches.
