Thoughts on older mainstream hard rock/metal bands

shows the age gap.

lol i thought exactly the same when i hit the thread

A lot of people, including my friends, seem to have made that transition from Nu Metal to the good stuff. I missed out on Nu Metal altogether. When I was like, 13, I got into all this Gothic Metal crap. Not sure if that's any better than Slipknot, but I feel like kind of a fag having this The Sins of Thy Beloved CD around still. Haha. Paradise Lost still sounds good to me, though, and early Theatre of Tragedy.

make that 3 of us. How old are some of you that music from 2001 is "old stuff"?

anyway, i never did this "transition" thing from that style to "good stuff". I've also had nothing against it really. It's pop music played in a heavier context, which is not such a bad thing to me. I really like bands like Sevendust and Silverchair. Throw in some Puya and Haji's Kitchen and all in all, i'd say i'm probably a fan of this style.

im 18 :-(....truly old stuff for me would be bob marley..but he doesnt fit into the hard rock/metal genre, so 1999 is the oldest i go.

edit: sevendust is the shit (even tho i dont like the drummer much)

:erk: I thought this thread would be about something good, like Deep Purple.

I used to listen to all the nu metal thing.. But not a lot anymore, I still like Disturbed and SOAD though, and Korn sometimes, I kinda dig Jons voice..

I<3Silverchair

and apparently, theyre finally coming out with a new album...after forever's time. BUt they have really changed since frogstomp, and are much less of a 'pop band in heavier context' so to speak, i really liked the use of the orchestral sections on neon ballroom, well crafted imo. :hotjump:

How is it a diamond in the rough? From what i remember it was a pretty popular album.

I think it's pretty obvious what context he was using it in. Why would you choose the wrong one and make yourself look stupid? are you so bad at pwning that your attempts actually just end up making you look retarded?

nu-metal was a transition for me as well. But I still listen to Slipknot and Godsmack every once in a while, even though godsmack sounds pretty generic, it was one of those gateway bands I can't let go of. Oh and I forgot about Rage Against the Machine, I still like them, but because of what they stand for (they should reunite). viva la revolucion!
