That said, your statement implied that me, as someone who doesn't buy packaging, is a somehow a lesser fan who doesn't get as much value out of music as you. I'm not offended by that, and maybe you're right, but I don't know where you could have gotten the data to make that claim.

I understand "the ritual", and performed it for many years, so just like you, I thought I might miss it if it went away. But instead of just speculating, I ran the experiment. I started buying mp3s a few years ago, and found that I still got a huge level of enjoyment out of that stuff, so either I didn't miss "the ritual", or the other benefits outweighed any loss I felt. So with that knowledge, I stopped buying physical CDs, and haven't looked back.

This all sounds like your justifying it to yourself by the way, through some form of guilty conscience or something. Either way, your overcompensating for something way too much...at least in your tone.

From reading some of the posts from other RCers, several seem to be really close to that all-electronic tipping point, so that's why I have some doubts about the viability of plans like JK's.

I own an iPOD. I rip all my CDs. I even sample music before I buy and I've supported that argument for a while now.

End result? No more blind buys of shitty albums, and a collection of CDs or vinyl containing no duds. BUT, I still buy the physical media, oh yeah baby.

Again, not really fair to judge the viabilty of "my plan" but I'll make sure to post my business strategy and benchmark results in the third quarter.

I returned the Ipod I got for christmas. Fuck that. I will continue to carry 10 jewelcases with me in my school bag at all time, switching manually between them at my leisure and reading along to lyrics, taking joy in band photos and wonderful art, etc.

 I would certainly hope so. Especially if you expect me to support you. I would also like a free cd for every time I mention the label name along with a Whopper, no tomato. Mmmk. Thanks. :p

You might also think of doing an Apprentice-like TV show to generate some buzz.

Don't take Neil so seriously guys - he's just one of those eccentric geniuses. :loco:

In all seriousness, give him a chance - I guarantee it'll payoff down the road. :)

Now create some musical threads, suggest some bands and impress the shit out of us you knuckleheaded, stubborn, digital music loving master of the internet. :D

At this current juncture, that St Paulie Primate is higher on my totem poll of people I hold in good favor.

BUY CD'S OR DIE!!!!

I didn't mean to imply that. More power to those who prefer the ease of buying mp3s. However, it has been my experience pretty much straight across the board that most people like those who post here (people dedicated to the music) would pretty much never settle for the mere mp3s, which was what I originally meant to say. In other words, because they are dedicated fans of the music in such a way it causes them to buy the physical form, rather than because they buy the physical form they are dedicated fans of the music (excuse the wording, I was trying to find the least loaded way of phrashing that statement, but hopefully you understand what I mean).

Mr. Keeley, any word of festival organizations for this summer? I'd love to come down and meet some of you folks as I fucked up and didn't go to NYC with my family last year.

You mean us folks organizing our own fest? Or just getting an RC gathering at a fest somewhere in the summer?

Right now, my only plans are Slovenia, but yeah man, I'm always up for an RC gathering. Probably deserves its own thread.

buying mp3's is fucking stupid, i love gazing over at my cd collection and going through it and spending 20 minutes rearranging it into alphabetical order when i get new stuff :loco:, you cant do that in winamp, well not to the same effect.

I'm curious, how many of you dont actually listen to the cd itself? I rip it onto my pc and the cd is kept safe in the case, I reckon about 5-10 of my cds would have sctratches the rest are perfect.[/I]

haha...your first line disagrees with my concept, but then everything else you said shows you have no use for CDs. You sure are confusing!

you're right but i still like having them, sure i could buy mp3's on the net but what do i have to show for it? a bleep on my hard drive that could get wiped at anytime from watching to much porn.
