To you, what defines "Metal"

I don't see the relevance of the question. I simply gave/defended my view of the genre of metal. It is simply my opinion, nothing more. I don't care what James Hetfield or whoever say. I consider Black Sabbath hard rock and an important stepping stone in the evolution of metal as I see it. That's it.

I suppose even retards are entitled to opinions...
And I feel Im stating the obvious here BUT there is plenty of relevence to me asking who you reckon the 1st metal band(s) are seen as you claim Sabbath arent it.

You know what, If id be living in the 70's, I might have considered them metal. But by today's standards, with metal having become more agressive, fast and overall menacing, Sabbath sound tame by comparison. See where I'm coming from? Sabbath have so little in common with what is associated with metal TODAY that IMO they are hard rock. It is just that in my eyes, genres continue to evolve through time, instead of having static rules that are never altered regardless of changes in the musical landscape.

I find Rammstien quite fun to listen too.

te quiero puta is simply hilarious...

there's nothing like listenening to german guy singing in spanish for a good laugh...it's even funnier than listening to celine dion doing dance music:lol:

I guess you just know metal when you hear it. Personally I think Black Sabbath had a major impact on what would become metal. Moreso in the Doom Metal genre, but also across the board. Distorted guitars, attitude, lyrical content, percussion, etc, all make up what is metal.

That's the problem, there was no 'metal' in the 70's. Therefore you can't technically call Sabbath metal because the genre didn't exist. That would be like calling Robert Johnson a pioneer of hard rock. Black Sabbath were a major influence on metal. That is a fact. Any other statement would be misinformed as well as misconjuntivicated.

Of course Priest and Maiden, although there earlier recordings seem more Punk influenced hard rock iirc.
