Would it be different albums if we were considering our favorites vs. most historic significance?
It's also interesting that most of the albums listed so far, be they the former or the latter, are from the early period. Is that because of the inherant superiority of that period or is it that newer albums haven't had the chance to withstand the test of time?
I noticed one mention of Gorod's new disc. That brings up the question of modern classics. Which albums will stick around to be mentioned on the World Data Net of 15 - 20 years from now.
In any case a few of my faves;
Carcass - Necroticism
Death - ITP
Cynic - Focus
Morbid Angel - Domination
Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated
For me, the early period is part of my teenage years and therefore very influential in my choice. I listen to a lot of newer discs as well and have faves among those, but the above list is loaded with music I would not want to be without. I'm sure it's partly familiarity that leads me to those choices as I've been listening to them since they first came out.
