1. At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours
2. Necrophobic - The Nocturnal Silence
3. The Chasm - Deathcult for Eternity: The Triumph
4. God Macabre - The Winterlong
5. Arghoslent - Incorrigible Bigotry

I thought about putting The Winterlong and Descend into the Absurd. Tough decisions but great albums.

'schizophrenia' is excellent and probably miasma's best song, though i'm not sure i'd put it on the same level as the fleshcrawl. also, that intro is godawful. 'pull the plug' is decent but doesn't stand out for me.

demigod 'slumber of sullen eyes' (the song, but yeah also the album) is another one for the conversation, although it's sort of extraordinary in the way it seems to both encapsulate death metal and go far beyond it. stuff like ATG, demilich, later gorguts etc strays quite far from archetypal death metal to my mind, but demigod give me the impression of staying relatively close but infusing it with this absurd amount of mysticism and grandeur.

Some awesome lists. MINE would be...

1. Death - Symbolic
2. Deicide - Scars of The Crucifix
3. Necrophagist - Onset of Putrefacation
4. Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
5. Obituary - Slowly We Rot

Death-Symbolic
In Flames-Jester Race
At the Gates- The Red In the Sky is Ours
Cynic-Focus
Atheist-Unquestionable Presence

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Abramelin - Abramelin
Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
Disincarnate - Dreams of the Carrion Kind
At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours

There are literally a dozen combinations i could use as my top 5, and it changes week on week - but that's a quick 5.

tritsio sucks, i sat through the whole title track and kingdom gone, waiting to like them, but it never happened.

it might be a historic dm album but whatever, lol at all the bandwagoners mentioning it.
