If everyone doesnt mind, just why are you vegetarians? It seems to me that to be a vegetarian one has to believe in God, or some divine order, other wise what is the point, as nature supports the eating of meat, human evolution and our social development is based on hunting. It seems that vegetarianism is something one only thinks of, if they are a rich overfed, supposedly spiritual westerner. Besided Indians, I think the question of vegetarianism is a non issue in most countries and cultures. I'm just raising this question, I really dont care if one is a vegatarian or not, Im just wondering why one is a vegetarian. How could one go without the goodness of a nice medium rare steak- life doesnt get any better than that.
As a bodybuilder myself, didnt pearl drink massive quantities of milk? I could be mixing him up with someone else. As long as you dont go Vegan, there is no reason you couldnt get alot bigger, with whey protein, cans of tuna fish etc. Remember though, genetics are important, unless you have the genetics for it, or wish to take growth hormones or steroids, you will not get as big as Bill Pearl.
The opposite to your theory on vegetarianism being a religious agenda could be true. 99% of the people who try to confront me about being a vegetarian say the same fucking thing, "God put animals on earth for us to eat.". They also claim that the bible tells them this. Whatever. Also, no one can ever answer me on our own reason for existance. Seems the only thing humans are good at are destoying ourselves and bringing everything else right down with us.
Are stong ethical beliefs only necessary when you fear eternal damnation?
I stopped eating meat out of a genuine compassion for animals. I think that we, as the "higher" species, should protect them rather than torture them and kill them for a snackfood. Is destorying everything our only way of proving our "superiority"? We cut down their homes, use them for experiments, use them as slaves or status symbols and needlessly consume them. Why? Because we're somehow better than they are? Bullshit!
I always hear "Other animals eat meat.". So what. They eat meat because they are designed for it and need to. We aren't and don't. Our digestive system is similar to herbivores (longer intestinal tract, for example), and nothing like a carnivore (short intestinal tract). Humans have to cook meat in order to not get violently ill off of it. Have you ever seen a lion BBQing an elk? We supposedly have canines. Compare ours to an actual carnivore. I welcome anyone to jump on a cows back and dig into it's neck with your giant canines.
People only eat meat because they are brought up with the belief that they are supposed to and out of laziness. If people had to kill, slaughter and prepare their own meat I guarantee you'd see a drastic increase in the sales of tofu. Safe packages of prepared meats don't scream in pain or look back at you.
As for Pearl, he's a lacto-ovo vegetarian (as am I, only I try to stick with organic food, which is more expensive but less guilt causing), so he probably does drink milk. Personally, I prefer soy milk, and it's protien content is comparable to cows milk. Check out his webpage,
www.billpearl.com and look at his nutritional suggestions.
And finally, it is possible to get to a respectable size as a vegan. Not Lou Ferrigno big, but a lot bigger than an average man.
