Vocal Technique - Help please ;)

Questions..

I've been looking into working on my vocals, and I can't seem to find any actual teachers or classes around in my area. My vocals aren't that good, but I can manage with stuff like Agalloch and Storm. Anyway, here's my questions...

1. How hard would it be for me to get up Vintersorg standard?

2. Are there any online websites free or for a small fee that actually work?

3. Eramaajarvi, would those techniques you sent help me at all? If so, could you send them to me through e-mail or ICQ? (ICQ#:172771952 and e-mail Sonnenritter@hotmail.com)

Thanks for any help you can give!:)

If you're a beginner - they will help! and you will just have to know to play the basic scales on the piano (F-major?).
Dropped ya on ICQ...

Feanor - here's a Falconer song which will be really easy to sing - Stand In Veneration.

Damn, those links won't work, stupid web host. Click the first link, and then delete the "/ffg.zip" in the adress-field and replace it with "/thefallen.zip" and it works. Really weird. Do the same thing the other way round, and you'll get both songs.

hehe i'll check that out and post what I think (don't worry i'll be good, I promise :p )

Lol, cool man :) Be as mean as you want to be, I'd rather have honest harsh critique than false positive critique...

The good news is we now have a bass player and two guitarists! So the next recording will undoubtedly have a much fuller sound (we *won't* record it by hanging a dynamic mic in the ceiling the next time either, so everything will probably be a lot better :D ).

 cool that sounds good, I started downloading now the first song (I have to wait 10 minutes for it stinkin modem   )

That's not me on the piano, it's our drummer. He has played for 6-7 years when he was younger. Then he had a break for a few years, but he's still got it. He did that tune in one take... we plugged in the mic in the minidisc and held it above a grand piano. Then he played it, without warming up or anything, just like that. Friggin' amazing! ;)

Man I heard that piano track and it's damn good :headbang: I downloaded the other one also and i'm still checking it out

I'm listening to it right now. My first impression is that your lower growls sound way better than your more shouted ones (and some parts sound great :headbang: ) overall they sound very good (If the recording was of a better quality i'm sure they would sound even better :D. Keep on it you're pretty damn good :headbang:

Thanks man :) As soon as we make a proper recording, I think things will work out fine. I'm hoping to record some vox with another band in a month or so.. they have everything they need to produce a record, including a good studio, but they lack a vocalist, so they wanted me to give it a try. It would be awesome to record some vox "for real". :D If it happens, I'll post the track on this board as soon as it's mixed and ready.

Cheers,
Nef

No problem  if you get the recording and you want me to check it out PM me or post a message here, I hope all works out well :headbang:

BACK AGAIN:):)

Vocal lessons going fine, except for the fact that in the official Greek university musical classes they never put apart head/chest voice, so my teacher uses both without having been taught how to combine them. That's gonna be no problem i hope. If it is, well, i'll have to change my teacher :(

Anyway, I wanted a bit of help on a borring (maybe) task. Please help, though :)

I'd like those of you who are eager to download the song "For Tomorrow" by Shaman. Then please try to figure out where we can hear Andre's full voice and where he's using falsetto. If some of you can reply to that, in a format like "Long ago the world...to the stars: full voice, Here we go...This never ending: [whatever]" etc, I'll really love you forever :)

I'll download the song.

Btw you say that your teacher doesn't know how to combine head and chest voice?:err: that's odd, I think that what you mean is that she teaches both chest/head combined am I right?
(without specifying what type of voice you're using) :)

I don't even have an mp3 download manager

@Ultimate Symphony: I'm looking forward to your reply, and thanks in advance :) BTW, I said that my teacher teaches them combined, just as you said. Do you believe that this will cause a problem?

General question: which note will a good singer reach as his top full voice? Which note do you think singers like Matos reach?

BTW, just highlighting something: I'm definitely not trying to copy anyone's vocals, nor do I want to sound like Andre Matos. I would just like to know if I can reach those notes, I don't mean that I will necesarily sing this high or anything like that :)

Last thing: what note would you be satisfied to reach, if you were me? (well, yeah, that's a nice question, hahaha)

Ciaozzzzzzzzz and thanks!:)

Hello there, I'm new on this forum... And hello to Eramaajarvi, it's nice to see a familiar face in a new place! ;)

This discussion on singing techniques is of great interest to me... I'm a guitarist (sort of) and my guitar teacher wants me to sing things, for ear training. When I sing, the pitch is usually correct, but my throat gets tired very quickly, I must do something wrong and my teacher can't help me there...

And, in fact, I'd like to really learn to sing, but I won't be able to have a teacher for that until next year, maybe. It would be great if I could train myself a bit in the meantime...

Eramaajarvi, do you think those lessons you already sent to several others would be appropriate for me? Could you send them to me, please? My email is cousin@in2p3.fr.

Feanor Matos gets up there but Mark Boals I think slays everyone in high range singing, have a song in which he hits a high C fully sustained with vibrato.

I don't think there is anyone in metal that can touch him
