OK - I consider myself someone who likes music. Why then, can't I see this love for Tool? I just can't find myself listening to them for any length of time, nor do I love any of their songs (although they do produce very interesting videos, of which Sober is pretty amazing).

I must be totally missing the musical meesage they are sending - I can think of tons of more mainstream songs I like better then any Tool song.

you said it Bub. cant say i dont feel sorry for you and what your missing out on. it took a few months before i got into Opeth and a further month or so to realise they're one of the best bands around, hmn maybe you need to take time and listen to the songsa few times. or dont bother, it doesnt matter much i suppose, some people like marmite, some hate it, others dont mind it, and some like it a bit, some just dont bother to eat it, and some think it looks like an oil slik (slick, whatever).

Yeah - on some Opeth songs, it takes time to get into - but the band Opeth took no time at all.

I've been listening to Tool since they first appeared on the scene - and have never liked them. I've listened to their music probably 5 times as much as Opeth (since I am a regular radio listener) because they are played quite frequently. I just hear nothing exciting in their music. Oh well - I'm just another case of how musical tastes vary amoungst us all.

Only two votes for NIN, including mine?? It was a tough choice, however... A Perfect Circle have only one album so far and Tool is great but doesn't have the same importance as NIN for me... (If it wasn't for The Downward Spiral, I wouldn't have voted NIN anyway)

I didn't include a few bands listed as mainstream.
With what was left, I voted Tool.

Of those listed I had to go with Faith No More. Mainly due to Angel Dust, that is an amazing album.
