Wacken- who will be there

Fuck I would love to go, I've been to two music festivals and they were pretty amazing but then again we never camped there and it wasn't a metal one in Europe!

I sooo want to be there :wahh: I may be going to Europe between december and February, are there any festivals in Winter?
The first that spring to mind are the X-MASS festivals in December. The billing (well, it's almost half a year from now, so there might be slight changes): Six Feet Under, Unleashed, God Dethroned, Krisiun, Cataract.

Forgot to mention: this is not a one-off; this is a full tour which usually plays several gigs in Germany plus some more in our neighbouring countries. Looking at my 2004 X-mass festival poster, you could see Marduk, Napalm Death, Finntroll, Vader.... in places like Paris, Prague, Vienna, Innsbruck, Milano, Pratteln, Strasbourg, Tilburg and Antwerpen.
In general, lots of bands are on tour from December to February, so your chances of seeing some cool gigs are high. Enjoy!:headbang: :kickass:

How cheap is German beer though?
Obviously it depends on where you buy it...in general (in the shops, at filling stations ets...) you get decent stuff for less than 1 Euro for 1/2 litre. At gigs/festivals they might charge you up to 5 Euro (or more) for the same amount.
As for your question, what time does the festival finish for the day, well, I visited Wacken only once (in 1999) and as I'm like you, I don't like camping, I stayed with relatives instead. For me each day ended around midnight...but with Wacken being the biggest metal fest in the world nowadays, I'd imagine there's live music until 4 or 5 in the morning and afterwards probably metal disco. So it's safe to say that Wacken really is all about 24 hours a day of metal and partying...

I AM GOING TO WACKEEEEEEN!!!! :)

last band finishes at about 3 or 4 in the morning :)

showering: NO NOT AT A FESTIVAL :D

but included with your wacken ticket is a free shuttle bus + entrance to wacken's open air swimming pool :)

and on the festival terrain there is something called prince body wash!

Prince Body Wash
A heaven-sent innovation in the sector of open-air body hygiene – this is bound to put an end to the old cliché of your smelly, mud-encrusted festival reveller: the Body Wash will be at your disposal at the Wacken Open Air Festival between July 31 and August 2. The container consists of eight chambers, all separated by slatted curtains. You take off your clothes, which will be transported to the exit during the process, in the first room. And off you go: in several steps, you find yourself soaped, showered off (even with cold water, if so desired) and finally dried off with an original car wash hot-air dryer. The Prince Body Wash is quite safe and also available for couples

if you REALLY want to shower, i suppose it's possible, but it's legal ONLY with official WACKEN SHAMPOO you can buy in the merchandise store :)

im going to see OL for the first time :) i am also looking forward to opeth, atheist, emperor of course. and i think im going to see Nevermore, Children of Bodom :)

BC-A, if you have a problem with getting a tent, you are welcome to mind and don't get me wrong here. I will be at the festival together with my brother.
I'll have to check this week (and mount the tent in the appartment  ). In case it's out of order, your offer might be of interest.

But damn i won't be able to do the "hey brother i bought you a cinema ticket for tonite" trick :D :D ;)

That's not so much better than here. I can get a 40 oz beer for like a buck 50, that's a little more than a Euro. I don't just mean like the Colt 45, which I like, but I also mean stuff like Corona Light. I get 30 can packs of Miller High Life Light for like 10 bucks also.

But wow, I had no idea Wacken was such an experience. I actually would sacrifice a few hours of sleep to do all that. I would still stay in a hotel though.

AnTz0r: Are you serious about that shower thing? Hahahahahaha, I never even knew they had stuff like that for humans. Does that actually work?
I didn't know they have a swimming pool. But is there really enough room to host all those people? As you can tell, I have absolutely no idea what the European festivals are like. I highly doubt video footage does it justice.

Another reason why I don't like summer festivals: it's either scorching hot or it's pouring down. If you're lucky, you get both the same day...

Are Americans the only people who really care about showering?
LOL...actually I went to a small festival last Saturday (headliners Vader, so you can imagine how small it was...though I must admit, they played a VERY cool version of "Raining blood")...anyway, it's a fact that for German festival visitors beer and sex are definitely more important than showering...:Smug:

Holy shit. I just went on their site. It sounds like there is so much to do and see but not enough time to do it all.
Sex is a lot harder when you don't bathe. I would be self conscious of how I smell and how the woman would smell makes a difference too. It's not like dousing myself in body spray would do the trick.

Metal head- you are a spoiled sissy! You really have no idea of having fun at a festival? And for the record- I do shower every day. 1- because I like it 2- because there is no other way to get your hair detangled after a long day of headbanging ( note: my hair is quite long so...)

By the looks of this thread I am going to have a wonderful time at the festival ! I have so many friends to meet from around the globe who are coming and trying to find the forum members- there wil lbe no time left for music. Well- festival days last 36 hours ( I don't drink, so I sustain)

I suspect that the blood alcohol level might do the trick here?...:Smug:
