I always thought it was like Vahcken which sounds kind of like an "O", like in call or ball.
But I was joking about how it is spelled. For Americans, it sounds like whackin.

Whackin as in whackin off. It was a stupid and disgusting joke. I always see everyone making that joke, I also make that stupid joke all the time, so I figured it would be a little funny. Forget I said anything.

What city is Wacken usually?
I'm surprised that another festival would go up against Wacken. It seems like it would be much smarter to wait a week so that they can draw a bigger crowed.

Wacken itself is not a city, it's a village, about 50 kms north-west of Hamburg. The festival takes place on the fields that surround the village.
The festival I'm going to is rather small and no competition for the Wacken Open Air as it draws a completely different audience. New Model Army are the only well known band on the bill (no, I should be honest really, it's more that I don't really care who else is playing...) and as NMA are really cool people, they play small festivals like that.

Isn't Celtic Frost playing this year's Wacken? If they are, could someone post their setlist? I might see them in September so I want to know what I could expect. I'm hoping that someone I know might be able to even get me on the guest list. If that would happen, I might scream like a little girl (at home where nobody could see/hear me do that, not in public)
