Opeth's new album has been leaked and I think it just replaced My Arms, Your Hearse as my favorite album from them. It is really diverse and a welcome change for them. I was really beginning to get very bored of them. This album has me all about them again.

I think Ihsahn has now been placed as a close second, the Opeth is now #1 hands down. No other band could make my #1 this year, unless Pain of Salvation or Nevermore put out a new disc by the end of the year.

I haven't heard more than the single, but it seems to be another non-disappointment from an awesome band. People will probably gripe about their new direction again, but there will always be those with small taste and small brains.

You guys sure have a liberal definition of 'change' and 'different'! Sounds to me like they're using the same version of the Opeth Song Generator software that they've been using for the last several albums.

The album isn't a completely radical shift in style, but it's pretty different from anything Opeth has done. As someone said who got to preview this album, it's easily the most keyboard influenced Opeth record to date (even moreso than Damnation). Also the songs just come off as more chaotic than on the average Opeth record. Overall, I love this album.

When I heard Lotus Eater (and thought it a mess of a song) I was pleased that Opeth announced that they would only be playing one song off the new album (and I'm betting it will be this song as Akerfeldt said it was his fav)....but after hearing the full album, now I wish they'd announce their own tour so we can hear more new stuff live. Of course I'm hungry for some of the older songs too.

Oops, I said something mean. Shouldn't be a shock.

So having heard the rest of the disc, Porcelain Heart is killer. I still think Dark Deceiver tops it, though as an album.
